Greetings!

I've just purchased a DIR-825 and successfully flashed the firmware to v1.01. I have a wireless camera operating in the 2.4GHz range and I wanted to set a fixed channel on the 2.4GHz radio to minimize interference with that signal. A little experimentation showed interference in the camera signal on CH 5, 6, and 7 but the AutoScan feature picked CH 6 as primary and CH2 as secondary. So I set the 2.4GHz radio to fixed CH 4 and it selected CH 8 as the secondary. This was great as far as the camera signal. I also set the radio to Auto/20/40. I had also configured the email full logs option and shortly after making this change, I started receiving many logs all with the same entries repeating over and over:

[INFO] Sat Mar 21 12:21:22 2009 2.4GHz Band: Wireless restart
[INFO] Sat Mar 21 12:21:20 2009 2.4GHz Band: Wireless link is up
[INFO] Sat Mar 21 12:21:18 2009 5GHz Band: Wireless link is up
[INFO] Sat Mar 21 12:20:57 2009 5GHz Band: Wireless link is down
[INFO] Sat Mar 21 12:20:57 2009 5GHz Band: Wireless restart
[INFO] Sat Mar 21 12:20:57 2009 5GHz Band: Disconnect all stations
[INFO] Sat Mar 21 12:20:57 2009 2.4GHz Band: Wireless link is down
[INFO] Sat Mar 21 12:20:57 2009 2.4GHz Band: Wireless restart
[INFO] Sat Mar 21 12:20:57 2009 2.4GHz Band: Disconnect all stations
[INFO] Sat Mar 21 12:20:57 2009 All Wireless shut down
[INFO] Sat Mar 21 12:20:55 2009 2.4GHz Band: Wireless restart

While the autoscan selection of CH 6/2 does not seem to be affected by the wireless camera signal (throughput is good), it does inject nasty interference bars in my camera image. There appears to be some issue with setting a fixed channel in this router?

Any suggestions are appreciated.
TIA

This is driving me crazy as well. I set both 2.4 and 5 GHz to fixed channel when I noticed two things:
1) Being disconnected from multiple online games about once an hour (never happened with previous AP).
2) On 2.4 GHz, the "auto channel selection" was always picking channel 1, which is by far, according to WiFi scanners and spectrum analyzers, the absolute most congested channel in my area.

Setting the channel manually to a known quiet channel did in fact improve my throughput, but has not stopped the frequent disconnects. The unit came with 1.01 firmware.

This is not limited to the DIR-825 units.  Happened to my "previous" DIR-615 (B2) router.  I just receive the warranty replacement unit.

I'm seeing this too but with auto channel selection enabled.  This makes the router pretty useless.

When I would see the wireless bands restarting cyclically in the logs a few weeks back, I went to my Caller ID Phone Logs.  The 2.4/5 Ghz. "wireless bands are down" messages began with an incoming phone call.  Now I knew the one 2.4 Ghz. phone I had around could interfere but this was ridiculous.  The others 4 handsets are 5.8 Ghz. Even stranger to see was that both bands went down from the call which leads me to believe that there is more interdependability/interoperability between the two bands that we may have thought.  I guess the 5.8 Ghz phones could have interfered but I thought the channel I had on for the 5 Ghz band (40) was technically at 5.2 Ghz or something.

I ripped the 2.4 Ghz out of the wall and stuck a picture of my son over the jack.  No problems since then.

I lock in channel 11 and I don't see any issues there.

Greetings!

Even the 5.8Ghz phones use the 2.4GHz band. You need to get a DECT6.0 set which uses a separate frequency spectrum altogether. I was happy I switched mine, much clearer and less noise than the old 2.4GHz I had.  I have a 2.4GHz wireless camera but it doesn't seem to affect the wireless connection much. Rather, I get interference bars in the camera image.

That's interesting.  Can you please explain how a 5.8 Ghz phone uses the 2.4 Ghz band? I wouldn't be surprised because I'm fairly sure I got some kind of disconnection again at the time of an incoming call.  The weirder thing was my hardwired Xbox lost it's connection to XBox Live at the time! There is a real ripple effect when the interference hits with this router.

Both the 2.4Ghz and the 5Ghz radios can trigger the router to restart itself.   When one of the radios happen to receive athe interference, it seems that it can be "interpreted" as a router "restart."

I can also state that DECT 6.0 phones do not cause this style problems.

Greetings!

Quote from: wikipedia on cordless telephone
Some cordless phones advertised as 5.8 GHz actually transmit from base to phone on 5.8 GHz and transmit from phone to base on 2.4 GHz or 900 MHz, to conserve battery life inside the phone.

I had replaced the 2.4GHz I had with a 5.8GHz just like you and found I still had interference also. Looking at the specs confirmed the above. I immediately returned the set since it helped not one bit.

DECT6.0 phones use 1.9GHz for DECT phones only, are 100% digital, and check before transmitting so there is no interference. As you might notice, I like the DECT6 phones a lot better than any of the older technologies. I have Panasonic with three handsets, a base station with answering machine and 2 charging stations that cost me around $80 a couple years ago. Well worth it.

And the icing on the cake, DECT6 is considered more secure and also allows more transmitter power hence greater range.  ;D
(wishes the dlink dir-825 worked as well as his DECT6 phones)

Well, I know for me that phone interference is not the issue.

I Never had that problem before firmware 1.10.  Also, do not own any 2.4GHz or 5.8GHz phones.

Greetings!

I'm having better luck with 1.11NA firmware as far as the wireless reboots as I seem to be able to set certain channels and it's fairly stable. Other channels are as before. Is it the Good Neighbor feature gone awry?

Unfortunately, lock ups of the shareport on the router requiring reboots (in my case) and other possible issues make me unable to recommend the upgrade wholeheartedly.

Good Day all.  I have just signed up for forum as I am having problems with the wireless frequently re-booting as well.  I have noticed in other forum threads that some have like trouble with the wired connection, but my wired seems to be solid.  Only trouble is that I have several laptops in the house between me the wife and kids and that's the whole point of wireless.

I shall try some of the suggestions here.  (I do have 5.8 Ghz phones and will disconnect them for awhile).  I have (only after the wireless trouble started) chosen to manually select a channel, but it happens on every one I select.  I've moved one laptop to the 5Ghz band but the wireless trouble is universal.

Sure hope DLink notices all us stiffs with trouble and figures something out.  Also glad I read other threads about all the heartache when upgrading to FW 1.11 and think I'll hold off for now.

Well, add me as another who has trouble with wireless continuously rebooting.  I've got page after page of logs which look identical to the top post in this thread.

Wired connection is stable.  I have not upgraded the firmware but cringe as I read all the other threads on problems caused by doing so.  Suppose I shall call support and jump through the hoops to hopefully get an RMA.

Wish me luck......
