Software RAID?
« on: April 13, 2012, 04:48:35 PM »

Does the DNS-320 use software RAID or hardware? Has anyone noticed a difference in speed between using RAID-0 and JBOD?

Software raid of course. Related to Linux notation it's raid built with mdadm (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mdadm).

In theory raid0 should be faster than jbod. But I did not notice the difference.

Since the max write speed in the DNS-320 seems to be about 30MB/s, what is the bottleneck that is slowing it down? I would have expected higher transfer speeds through gigabit and cat 6 cables. If its the processor in the DNS-320, would it make sense to not use RAID0 and just use JBOD, would that free up some resources to increase throughput?
