dir-625 shareport blue screen
« on: March 31, 2009, 07:08:46 PM »

I just installed my dir-625 router.  I have 3 computers hooked to it, 1 desktop that is hardwired to it running windows xp pro, and 2 laptops connected wirelessly, 1 running xp home and 1 running vista home premium.  I installed shareport version 1.14 on all 3 machines, the xp machines run fine, the machine running vista different story.  Everytime it loads up since the install I get the blue screen.  Tech support was pretty much a joke and no solution other than to call the pc manufacturer.  I asked him if there was an issue with vista and of course the answer was no.  I did a search and found a topic for a different but not for this particular one.  Any help will be appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

I noticed a post, in a different "group" on these forums, that there seems to be some incompatibility with some "enhanced" firewall softwares and  Shareport.  The "poster" solved their problem by removing his "Zone Alarm" with another "product."

Thanks for the reply.  I tried uninstalling my internet security and running shareport without any security and no luck.  Tried other things and it would always crash.  Already sent the router back and got another namebrand which works well so far.  Thanks again for the reply.

From which site have you installed the shareport utility for DIR-625?
Which firmware are you using on the router?
Where are you using the router? (In India or US or UK, ....)

Are you connecting Printer or NAS to router USB port?
If its Printer, are you sure you have installed Vista drivers for the printer in vista machine?
 ??? ??? ??? ???

I know you already sent the router back but i think you installed the wrong shareport version on wrong firmware of the router.

i had the latest firmware and downloaded the utility from dlink.  i wasn't trying to install a printer, it was an external harddrive.  it worked fine on both of computers running XP but on the one running Vista, i had nothing but blue screens and crashes.

ME TOO...

DIR-625 RevC, Latest Firmware 3.08, SharePort Utility from D-Link site...so all official...

When installation no problem on my two machine XP and Vista. They both detected my USB storage - WD 1T MyBook....XP picked up the driver instantly with no problem, but Vista tries the connection, but the Driver never pops up from MyComputer and MyComputer/Windows Explorer basically frozen forever until I 'disconnect' the USB storage from SharePort Utility.

I have no Firewall or whatsoever except default Vista firewall....It gotta be sth to do with the SharePort compatibility with Vista....

Can someone give some insights?
