I have a new DIr-655. My router is using the default settings for address and DHCP.
There are three hardwired desktops and two wireless workstations on the network.
I've reserved the DHCP addresses for all five workstations.
All five can get to the Internet with no problems.
The hardwired PCs can ping one another on the network.
The anomalous behavior is this (real IPs, hostnamed sanitized)
The workstation called XPwired1 is at 192.168.0.194 and is hardwired. It runs Windows XP.
Another workstation Linwired1 is at 192.168.0.195 and is also hardwared, running Ubuntu 8.04.
The workstation called XPwireless1 is at 192.168.0.198 and is wireless.
All three workstations can connect to the Internet, at least through ports 80 and 443.
XPwired1 and Linwired1 can ping each other.
XPwireless1 can ping XPwired1 and Linwired1.
XPwireless can RDP to XPwired1, and can SSH to Linwired1.
But neither XPwired1 nor Linwired1 can ping or connect to XPwireless.
I have identical issues with the other wireless workstation we'll call XPwireless2 - it can ping and connect to the hardwired workstations but they cannot ping or connect to it.
Additionally XPwireless1 and XPwireless2 cannot ping one another nor connect to each other.
In summary, it appears the wireless workstations have a one-way connection: they can initiate outbound connections, but inbound connections to them cannot be initiated.
Nevertheless if a wireless station initiates a connection to a wired workstation, the connection appears to work in both directions.
I'm puzzled - right now the need I have to initiate inbound connections to the wireless nodes are minor. The bigger issue is to understand what I'm missing.
Does anyone have any suggestions for specific diagnostic procedures I could run or logs to look at? I'm not an expert but I've been doing servers and networks for a few years.
