IPv6 Problem
« on: June 23, 2012, 05:43:42 PM »

Hi all,

Wondering if someone who has gotten a native IPv6 connection to work on this router could help me out.  My ISP has assigned me a /56 and a /64, which I've assigned in Setup -> IPv6.

From the router, I can ping IPv6 addresses, and the router assigns IPs to devices on my network, but it seems they can't communicate with the outside work.  Almost like a routing issue.

Here is Status -> IPv6:

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router? By the looks of it, your using the PPPoE on the router, thats good. Does an IPv6 connection work if you by pass the 655?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?

Hey FurryNutz,

Thanks for the response!

Since posting, I've made a bit of progress.  Basically, the IPv6 connection is up and it useable, but the router is not pushing itself as the gateway.  It assigns IPs to the computers, but unless I manually add the gateway address, it's a no go.  Not sure what I'm missing now.

To answer your questions, my provider is Teksavvy DSL (Canada).  The modem is the one I'm forced to pay rent on which is the CellPipe 7130 (I believe it's an Alcatel Lucent).

I did try bypassing the 655, but I'm not familiar enough with IPv6 to get my laptop working on its own.  OS X seems to be a little bit picky in that way.

On a side note, the router is not advertising the gateway on OS X, Linux, or Windows 7 machines on my network.  Previously I had been using TunnelBroker's 6in4 on a 615 and that was able to push the gateway just fine.

What FW version is currently loaded on the 655?

Ok, I was going to ask as there was a update in FW v2.01 with an entry of IPv6 Spec 1.12R that v2.00 didn't have I guess. Since then there was a couple more additions with IPv6 since then so the router should be fully supporting the IPv6 platform.

I'm wondering if you set the 655 up with tunneling just to test to see if that works like you had on the 615.
I presume the ISP modem is supporting IPv6, it would be good to see if thats working with out the router to be sure. If it works with the modem then it's just a case to make sure the 655 is configured correctly.

Also get a hold of Patrick533 on here and see if he can recommend anything to help out. Also might call DLink support and check to see if there is any recommendations from them as well. Level 2 support would be good.

I have limited experience since my ISP isn't supporting IPv6, yet. Im still waiting.  ::)

Thanks Furry!

Your suggestion on configuring the 6in4 tunnel on the 655 and see if it pushes the gateway is a good test.  At least I can try and rule out if it's a problem with my ISP.  I want to say it's not, simply because no one else is complaining about this problem, and I've had them configure 3 separate logins for my testing purposes (don't ask :P), so the chances of them screwing them all up seems unlikely.

I'll try giving support a call tomorrow too.

Hopefully you can get some IPv6 action from your ISP soon.  I don't know if you're in the US or not, but it's nice to see Comcast rolling out support for it.  Will be nice to use my family's Comcast connection to connect back to my own stuff next time I'm visiting :P

Is the IPV6 Firewall turned on?

I am using IPV6 on a similar product, if the firewall is on, turn it off for now.

Under ADDRESS AUTOCONFIGURATION SETTINGS, how do you have this set?

Is the DNS server fields for IPV6 populating?

Any of these could stop you in your tracks.

Sorry, Furry asked to come over and lend a hand last night but I was already in bed. I have a DIR-827 I am using that is basically the same setup, except I have dual bands for WiFi. Also I am using 6RD instead of native, but after the 6RD settings the rest of the setup is the same. I will check back after I feed my animals and a couple of more times after that if you have not replied yet. There is another gentleman that has more IPV6 experience then me and is way better than I, but he is in Germany and did not reply to a personal E-mail I sent yesterday, so he is probably enjoying his weekend.

I had to do choirs and an oil change on my truck yesterday, so I was just beat last night, sorry for the delay.

Good morning Patrick :)

Thank you for taking the time to help out.  No need to apologize, you don't owe me anything, though I do appreciate it!

The firewall is off and I haven't bothered to turn it on at all.

Under address autoconfiguration, I currently have 'Enable automatic IPv6 address assignment' checked off, and 'Autoconfiguration Type' set to SLAAC +  Stateless DHCPv6.  'Router Advertisement Lifetime' is 1440.

I tried doing the test last night of re-configuring it with the 6in4 tunnel, but for what ever reason it wouldn't assign any IPv6 addresses to my laptop.  It was about 2am though so maybe I was just too exhausted and overlooked something simple.

Thanks again :)

What OS is your laptop?

Does it have IPV6 enabled?

I am using a house full of IPV6 gear and I get addresses for everything, even through a IPV4 only access point.

Why did you set  "Enable automatic IPv6 address assignment' checked off" That should be turned on unless you have another DHCP server on the network. I have never set up a native box, but I believe that this needs to be enabled, it is on mine.

If I understand correctly, you have native IPV6 so you would not need a tunnel, the router should serve up addresses like mine does on 6RD.

Your captures just showed up after I unblocked the sharing service. My kids have a nanny filter, let me look over the settings real quick.

Have you tried turning on DHCP-PD? From everything I see, as long as the computer is setup correctly, you should be fine.

Being you have used your computers with a DIR-615, everything else should be fine too.

You should not have to assign a gateway, one is clearly listed on your router and it should feed it to the PC, just like the Dir-615 used to. The stateless DHCPV6 should do all the work.

Maybe tier 2 tech support could think of something I am not, this equipment is pretty much plug and play!

Here is a shot of my ACTIVE firewall:

Here is my config:

Hey again Patrick,

Sorry, when I said checked off I meant it was enabled.  The pictures should clear up any confusion :)

The computers are receiving IPv6 addresses, but the gateway/router address is not being pushed to the computers.

I have tested this with CentOS (both 5 and 6), OS X, and Windows 7.

Under Windows 7 for example, get this:

IPv6 Address:  My IPv6 address
Temporary IPv6 Address:  Another IPv6 address
IPv6 Default Gateway: BLANK

I'm at a loss!

Hmmm besides the firewall, your config looks just like mine.

And just as a better example, this is from my laptop if I do automatic IPv6..  You can see the router is handing it two IPv6 addresses, but no router.  I think a call to D-Link might be in order!

Thanks again for your time!

What happens if you manually configure OSX? Can you input the routers IPv6 address?
