Problem with Connections and DNS
« on: June 27, 2012, 10:05:02 AM »

I've had this problem on 3 separate computers, I would connect to the DIR-615, and that's where it stops when it should be headed through my modem. I'm using the DIR-615 as a pass through to my ISP modem but, all three computers DNS look up goes to 198.168.0.1 and refuses to change, 2 of the computers have been able to look up the dns properly but the third still refuses....What's going on? I'm getting frustrated over this....

Link>Welcome!
What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.
What region are you located?
Are you wired or wireless connected to the router?

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?
If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems.
To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged.
If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ.

Some things to try:
Turn off ALL QoS or Disable Traffic Shaping (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking. If this is ON then DNS lookup will only reflect 192.168.0.1 since its having to handle the DNS an relay that to the devices I believe. So it might not show actual DNS coming from the ISP.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.
Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking.

If 2 PCs are working for DNS lookup and the 3rd isn't I would also review that PCs drivers and network settings to make sure they are up to date and correct. Possible the network card in that PC isn't working correctly or something is different about it.

B2 2.23

USA Central
Wireless only issue

ISP: SBC Yahoo currently now AT&T
ISP: Stand alone with wireless, disables due to conflict with neighborhood's 2wires
Make: 2Wire 4 port all used No issues with this

We have several wired and wireless computers, requiring several wired switches and a wireless router.

I haven't had this issue until about a a week ago

I went as far as completely resetting it to default and reset for the network here. That failed, I even swapped it with an identical spare I had, also failed

DNS relay is on,
everything was basically factory settings other than access PW and PPPoE settings which didn't really have an effect

And as I said, 3 computers, 3 different times, one DNS not responding...I'm about to buy a new router....
