DIR-655 Wan Wont connect
« on: July 07, 2012, 01:12:58 PM »

So up until today this wireless router has been a champ but today things took a turn for the worst.

I have not been able to connect the internet wan connection and when attempting to connect to the wan to activate it it times out and wont connect.

I've tried updating the firmware, reseting, power cycling, etc. and so far I have not been able to get it to work.

I currently have a Qwest M1000 modem which runs the PPPoE and I have no idea where to go from here.

Thanks for the help in advance.

Been Checking still into it could it be that my modem is gone?  :(

When I connect the wired connection (modem>ethernet cable>wireless DIR-655>computer)
I cannot even access google using the wire connection so it seems that the modem isn't even receiving the signal. Lights light up but nothing is going through.

Need to have your ISP help you bridge the DSL modem and use the PPPoE  connection on the router.
If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ.

Your modem is not bridged. I would ask your ISP about RFC Transparent Bridge for the DSL modem.
You'll need to have your PPPoE acct information ready to using on the 655 router under Setup/Internet/Manual/Connection Type>PPPoP. Ensure ALWAYS ON is selected.

Furry for setting up is it as simple as selecting the option from my modem and then inputting the info in the  DIR-655? or is it more complicated then that?

The reason I ask is that the ISP more times then not aren't exactly the most helpful. It's usually some guy reading out of a manual.

I presume so however I can't be positive as each DSL modem is a bit different. I know that once the DSL modem is correctly bridged and the 655 as the PPPoE info, power off both, then power ON the modem, then power ON the 655, usually you should get internet if the Blue globe lights up on the 655. If it doesn't turn from Amber to Blue, something isn't right on the modem or the PPPoE info isn't right on the 655 router. I would ask for level 2 support from your ISP. Might do a search on the web and see if you can pull up any info on bridging that model modem from other forums if you can't get any help from your ISP.

What is that "RFC 1483 Bridged" option in the first red box?

Thats the possible bridging option for bridging this modem, however it needs to be confirmed with the ISP.

well looks like i got it to work I did select the bridge items as previously posted in the selection screen and the set up the modem. So for the time being it has fixed my problem and my internet is working properly again.

As to Garcias question above I never did find out what the other bridge option was since mine is working correctly now.

To furry thanks agin for all the help. You did more help for me then my ISP so thanks a million for all your help about this problem.
