It will most likely be futile but worth a try anyways as purchasing a modem is most likely not an option as I use them for VoIP service.

You might check on Motorola, I think they have some cable modems with VoIP options...
Ya, I don't like all the fees and such. Sometimes I feel like the ISP are trying to nickel and dime everyone like banks do.

If there was some actual competition they could not get away with nickel and dimming us.  I checked their approved cable modem list and there are no modems VoIP capable listed.

EDIT: It sounds like If you get a modem for Internet and just use theirs for phone service you don't get charged the fee.
