I'm trying to decide whether it is worth roughly $25 to do this mod.
I only paid $6 for mine (got it from a goodwill store, surprisingly it had the adapter with it)
I can sometime get file transfer over 8MB sec between my laptop (wired) and desktop (dell wireless 1506 an atheros chipset 1x1 card) but in order to do that i really have to tweak the position of the router then accidentally moving it an a few centimeter can cut that down considerably.

I broke the connector off one of the internal antennas a few months back, and finally got around to buying some antennas last Saturday and got them Yesterday.

Less than $6 only took a week to get them from china, they now allow me to have consistent coverage all over my apartment, and they have u.fl connector so i didn't have to buy an antenna and a pigtail adapter, an excellent deal.
I haven't drilled any holes yet ,for now i have off the rubber center layer and have the antennas held in between the 2 layers of white plastic.
