Enabling Wireless Causes My DIR-655 To Constantly Restart
« on: August 19, 2012, 03:36:57 PM »

DIR-655  A4
Firmware: 1.35NA
ISP: Comcast
Speedtest.net shows: 5ms Ping, 62Mbps down, 12 Mbps up
Cable Modem:
ARRIS DOCSIS 3.0 / PacketCable 2.0 Touchstone Telephony Modem
   HW_REV: 3
   VENDOR: Arris Interactive, L.L.C.
   BOOTR: 1.2.1.25
   SW_REV: 7.4.63A.SIP.PC20
   MODEL: TM722G
   Battery Charger FW Rev: 02.30

Everytime I enable wireless, the router constantly restarts anywhere from every 60 seconds to every 5-10 minutes.

I have tried with and without QoS enabled.
I have treid with and without Traffic Shapping enabled.
I have tried with and without UPnP enabled.
I have treid setting Channel Width to 20Mhz only.
I have tried changing to only use N and G type WiFi
I have tried setting a single channel and auto channel modes.
I have tried powering off all cordless phones.
I have factory reset the modem many times and made only these Wi-Fi changes:  SSID Name, Invisible, and Password to connect to WiFi (aside from setting up the WAN).
In scanning for WiFi access points on my phone, only 3 display (I konw there could be others hidden.) - I will not buy a Spectrum Analyzer. I do not live in that populated of an sub-division.
I have even re-installed the 1.35NA F/W.

If I turen off WiFi, the network stays up just fine (for days). As soon as I enable WiFi, it starts restarting within seconds.

The only WiFi Devices I use in my house are 3 cellphones (one Laptop which is powered off 95% of the time and a Wii also powered off 99% of the time).
On the Wired LAN I have:

-3 normal Desktop PCs (1 with Vista 32b, 2 with Windows 7 64b)
-1 Work Laptop that runs VPN to the work network
-2 DirecTV DVRs
-1 Blu Ray Player
-SlingBox HD Pro

All devices are set to auto obtain IP addresses

I have had this modem for about two years and this just started about a month and a half ago. About to replace the Router with a new non-DLink router, but thought I'd give the forums a shot. If I do, and the new router works, I will not buy DLink equipment in the future.

LAN
-Modem
--Router DIR-655 A4 1.35NA
---DLink Switch A (off of router) gigabit speed
----Desktop (Win 7 64b) gigabit speed
----Desktop (Win 7 64b) gigabit speed
----Laptop (Win 7 32b on VPN 100% of the time) gigabit speed
---DLink Switch B (off of router) gigabit speed
----Desktop (XP 32b)
----DLink Switch C (off of B) gigabit speed
-----DirectTV DVR HR-20
-----SlingBox HD Pro
----DLink Switch D (off of B) gigabit speed
-----Direct TV DVR HR-23
-----Desktop (Vista 32b)
-----Blu Ray

I play Diablo 3 and the lag that is created when the router restarts as well as getting booted, along with apps on my phones locking up are about to make me throw the DLink Equipment against the wall.

FYI - the Comcast modem was just upgraded to the Xfinity Voice modem becuase I puchased two Voice lines last week. The issue was happening before the new modem was insatlled, and after. According to the Comcast Modem's status page (192.168.100.1) the modem has been online for 4 days, 6 hours, and 31 minutes. So I know the modem has not been cycling.

Help?

Any chance tou have a friend or family where you could take this router to a different location to seenif the problem follows?
Possible your area is congested w other wifi routers near by. Any chance you can
Get a 5ghz wifi AP and a DWA-160 usb 5ghz adapter to see if 5ghz will be a better solution for you since 2.4ghz could be crouded.

This is not an option I can pursue.

It still continues to reboot constantly.

Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer to find out. How many?
This is a free based anylizer.

Maybe someone can review your router settings with you using Link> teamviewer if your interested. Its safe and secure.
