DIR-835-Internet does not work on computer hooked up to cable
« on: August 20, 2012, 09:16:32 PM »

Hi everyone,

I just bought a DIR-835 Router. the wireless works good-the problem however is the PC I have hooked up to the cable box, now the internet works only occasionally. I have tried disabling the firewall ,etc. The only time I can get the internet on the cable box connected PC to work is when I reset the router. I have a Gateway PC with Windows XP, I use Google Chrome. I assume it must be a Router setting that needs correcting. My previous D-Link router worked fine with the cable connected PC.

Please help

Thanks

Link>Welcome!
Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.
What region are you located?
Are you wired or wireless connected to the router?

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?
If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems.
Double NAT
To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged.
If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ.

Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1.
Turn off ALL QoS or Disable Traffic Shaping (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.
Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking.

Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.
Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing.

Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Link> Cat6 is recommended.

Let us know if you can try some of the suggestions.

I would also look at the ISP modems logs and see if there are any link issues there.
Are there any log entries on the 835?

I currently have a 835 connected to a Motorola SB 6180.
What model # modem is this standard Comcast Modem?

Hi - just to let you guys know that I had the Videotron ISP replace the arris modem with a higher grade model and the router still did not operate correctly after factory reset. The tech from the service provider confirmed the router was the problem after checking the signals of all the equipment.

So I had to get rid of the DLink and replace with a Linksys/Cisco and it worked instantly. I did try very had to get the Dlink to work but it is not just compatible with Arris cable modems, apparently.

Sorrry it didn't work out. Not sure what the problem is with Arris modems and Dlink routers. Not Compatible I guess. :-\ I prefer NOT to use Arris modems. Understand that not everyone has that option.

Enjoy and Good Luck.
