DIR-825 Maxed at 25mbps
« on: August 28, 2012, 12:12:05 PM »

I just upgraded my internet service to a 100 mbps package.  PC directly connected to modem gives me correct speed, but when I run through the DIR-825 b1 I can't get more than 25mbps.  I have firmware 2.06 and I'm not sure where to start problem solving.  Any ideas?

Thanks

Dave

Link>Welcome!
What region are you located?

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?

Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1.
Turn off ALL QoS or Disable Traffic Shaping (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.[/url]
Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking.
WAN Port Speed set to Auto or specific speed? Some newer ISP modems support 1000Mb so manually setting to Gb speeds can be supported by the router. Advanced/Advanced Networking/WAN Port Speed

Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.
Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing.

Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Link> Cat6 is recommended.

Hello

I'm in Canada with Shaw BB100 service.  My modem is Cisco DPC3825 in bridged mode.  I have all traffic shaping off and my standard settings are pretty much as you have suggested.  I tried playing with the wan port settings but no difference.  It bottlenecks at 25mbps download.  Directly connected to the modem with pc I get around 80mbps.

Is this ISP service DSL?
Is the 825 handling the PPPoE connection or is it DHCP?
So you supposed to get 100 down and ?? UP ?

What browser are you using when testing? I recommend IE first.
Ensure all other wired and wireless devices are turned OFF while testing.
I might flush the DNS cache on the PC as well. Restart the PC.

Was there a earlier version of FW on this router before? What version. Did you reload a saved configuration file from the previous version of FW?

This cable modem is a Gateway and you say it's able to be in bridged mode?
Does the ISP modem have a DMZ option by chance?

I just had my new 100/5 service installed today.  I purposely had Shaw put it into bridged mode so that it's not
being a router just a modem.  I have had this firmware since it came out.  I originally received my dir-825 with 2.02 on it 2 years ago.  I'm running a saved config file on it.  I had thought about doing a reset and testing without the config file, but hoped I was just missing something obvious.

Ok, I would do a factory reset on the 825 and set it up from scratch and test again. Don't load the configuration file. Not sure if these will result in any thing. I hope it will.

Have seen some minor issues with using previous config files from older FW versions on newer loaded FW versions.

IF the cable modem is bridged and working as a modem only, then there shouldn't be anything else to do. You should be getting near 100/5 on speed tests with the 825 online. I don't have that speed here yet however I get 50/2 all the time here, however I use a stand alone cable modem.

If need I'd follow this:
FW Update Process

And reload that same FW version you have currently loaded.

Thanks for your suggestions.  I kind of thought I would need to try from scratch.  Going fishing for 3 days so I'll try doing this on the weekend.  I'll report my findings after I try everything.

Thanks

Can you tell me if you see a 192.168 or a different ##.##.###.### address on the WAN ip address on the 825? Under Status/Device Info/Wan Section.

Ok, just making sure.
Try the factory reset and set up from scratch and post results when you can.
Have a good one.
