Router - media server issue
« on: September 24, 2012, 01:34:00 PM »

I have a D-Link 655 Extreme Gigabit Router and a switch, the router is the DHCP server, the switch has DHCP disabled.

After an issue with my cable modem, I had to reboot the D-link router and switch.

After the reboot, my Sony Bravia TV is unable to see my media server, or any media servers.

The media server is a D-Link DNS-325 NAS box, which was accessible before the reboot.

Additional media servers are 2 PCs and a DNS-321, which were also accessible before the reboot.

I checked the router settings, and the IP address of the NAS box changed, so I added a DHCP reservation on the D-Link 655 router for the NAS box, changing the IP address back, but this didn't fix the problem.

What other settings in the D-Link 655 router can I check, nothing has changed on the NAS box, so I don't think it is the problem, plus both computers can still see the NAS box, only the TV is unable to see it. I don't think the switch is the problem, DHCP is disabled, and uPNP is enabled.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

If you bypass this switch, can the devices see each other?

What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.
What region are you located?
What mfr and model # is this swtich?

Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1.
Turn off ALL QoS or Disable Traffic Shaping (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.
Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking. Disable uPnP for testing Port Forwarding rules.

WAN Port Speed set to Auto or specific speed? Some newer ISP modems support 1000Mb so manually setting to Gb speeds can be supported by the router. Advanced/Advanced Networking/WAN Port Speed

The router is a D-Link DIR-655, hardware version B1, firmware 2.0.3NA the latest stable version last time I checked. Region is USA.

I setup DHCP reservations for all devices on the network. (1 at the time was all the router would allow)

I also set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.

The switch is a Netgear ProSafe FVS318G, and I changed the PC's from the router to the switch, and the NAS boxes from the switch to the router, and I had my connection back.  :D

Plus the 2 PC's on the network, now going through the switch, can still access both NAS boxes fine.

Thanks!  Do you recommend updating my firmware from 2.03NA to 2.07NA?

Just wondering, thanks for your help, I was pulling my hair out trying to figure this one out!   ;D

I would keep whats loaded. You can update if you feel like it. If your not effected by any of the changed in v2.07 I would keep v2.03.

You can downgrade back to v2.03 if you upgrade. I would save your current config to file. Upgrade to v2.07 and generate a new config file from scratch if you upgrade.

Glad you got it working well.

Enjoy.
