Firmware 1.30 Posted for 1 day and now removed???
« on: April 15, 2009, 03:20:49 PM »

OK what happened?
This is a little concerning. Both the newest firmware and Shareport Mac/PC software, gone!
If there was a bug, what happens to those that did the upgrade? If I can't roll back to 1.22 or 1.21 what happens now. It's taken a long time to get this up. Hopefully there will fix and a repost very soon.
On a brighter note. Shareport 1.10 PC and 1.01 Mac seemed to connect nicely although the Cosetup does not work for Leopard 10.5.6 I used the 10_4 package and it installed fine. The PC version both 32 bit and 64 bit installed with no instances.
But my internet connection still seems to be a little rough. Up and down like before.

It shows in the list but you get an error if you try to download,  plus if you click more in the revision info it only shows revision info up to 1.21.

Have thus far been using 1.30 effortlessly. Seems the same as 1.22. Anyway, I neglected to download the Shareport 1.01 for Mac. If somebody has a download link, I'd like to try it out.

Where is ''there''?

On the FTP, it was still there when I posted the reply and all complained that it was gone. Perhaps only the http link was gone :-)

And on the FTP site it isn't listed as of this morning, and the link

http://www.dlink.com/products/support.asp?pid=530&sec=1#firmware

is to the USA Site. The disclaimer state it's for Products made in the USA only so it may or may not work for anyone outside there borders.

A little feedback from the moderators would be nice.

This is the second time that DLINK has posted new firmware and in less than one day removed it. This goes to show to what extent they beta test their software before its release. Let's be glad they aren't in the business of manufacturing perscription drugs.

I would love it if some responsible DLINK representative would respond to this protocol as it is their product that is the last line of defense between our home networks and the internet.

I believe it's time to begin shopping around for a product who's support for software releases are a little more serious than those of DLINK.

As soon as this posting is removed from thier site I plan on doing what I should have done long ago, shop around.

I made very explicit remarks/warnings about firmware with no fall-back option,
and kept on replying at people who obviously though that I was making no sense and was called a troll along the way. Actually the thread was blocked.
I for one totally agree with you.

You weren't trolled because of that, you know better than that.
There are situations thinkable that have no fallback option. This is one of them. You can keep shouting that it shouldn't be like that, but the fact remains: it's non-downgradeable. People who read the changelog before upgrading knew about that.

Nonetheless, I agree cmopletely that Dlink has indeed miscommunicated a lot of important info when putting it live, no question about that. And their internal process is really bad. To put it mildly. But screaming 'murder' really does not add to the situation. Trust me, they know...
