I made very explicit remarks/warnings about firmware with no fall-back option,
and kept on replying at people who obviously though that I was making no sense and was called a troll along the way. Actually the thread was blocked.

There are situations thinkable that have no fallback option. This is one of them. You can keep shouting that it shouldn't be like that, but the fact remains: it's non-downgradeable. People who
read the changelog before upgrading knew about that.
Nonetheless, I agree cmopletely that Dlink has indeed miscommunicated a lot of important info when putting it live, no question about that. And their internal process is really bad. To put it mildly. But screaming 'murder' really does not add to the situation. Trust me, they know...
