[Resolved] Troubles with logging in/access
« on: November 03, 2012, 04:23:18 AM »

Good morning from London :D

I think my Sharecenter has partially broken down.

I've been happily using it at it's simplest application as a media centre coupled with a WDTV, and it's been wonderful up until now.

As of this morning, one of the drive lights is not showing on the front of the hardware, and I can't log in using the browser/IP method.

I can't access the shared drives, either.

The funny thing is that both drives physically start up (i can hear them both get going on a restart) and the device is still visible on the WDTV, the torrents are still completing, and the media is still playing.

I'm a little  ??? ??? ??? and was wondering if there may be any wisdom available to tap out there, before I embark on the arduous task of D-Link customer support.

Thanks

dgb

Restart NAS and see if it help, the built-in P2P apps is known to be resource hungry.

If the WDTV is able to "see" your NAS, that meant network connectivity is still available. So it kind of odd that you can't access the NAS webUI from the browser.

Does pinging the NAS get any response? Are there any disc activity, ie HD LED light blinking?

Do you get to the Web UI login page and can't log in or does the Web UI login page fail to load?

wow thanks guys!

I'm a proper 'dunno' type with IT stuff just so it's clear.

I haven't tried pinging. there is HD LED action for ONE of the drives, the 'R' light next to the on light. But as I said earlier, I can hear them both start up... weird.

that's exactly it! I get to the Login page, and it's all weird and in 'times new roman' font, and then it times out once the 'login' tab is clicked.

thanks all!!

I'm not sure if this will help, but did you try accessing the Web UI with a different browser on your PC (or use a different PC).  Try clearing the browser cache so the page is forced to reload.  Also, reboot your PC and router.

If the suggestions in my prior post don't provide any relief, you should consider resetting the DNS-320 to the factory default settings and re-uploading the firmware.  If you are able to log into the Web UI, I would save the firmware Configuration Settings before performing a factory reset.

Restoring to the factory default firmware should not impact your HDD configuration or data, although as a precautionary measure I strongly recommended backing up your data before performing this procedure.

hi java, and thanks for the replies.

unfortunately the cache removal and trying from a new PC did not work, so I am unable to log in at all, still.

the conundrum for me, is the fact that I've lost a the 'L' HDD activity light even though the HDD is still booting up.

some info, in case it may help.

I have it set up as 4TB raid 0 i.e. one large 4TB HDD, and use it exclusively for a media centre.

thanks for the help

OK so my next question is this:

If the unit is faulty and I get another one, will i be able to drop the HDD's into the new chassis and bish bash bosh everything's hunky dory?

Or am I living in a dream world??

If it's not possible to do this will I have to go through the mission of installing the drives in a PC that can read the linux format to back up the data?

thanks for all the help

You should be able to pull the HDDs from your current DNS-320 and drop them into a new DNS-320 without issue. Just make sure the firmware in the new unit is recent enough to support your HDDs.

On a related note, from your post it reads as though you currently do not have a backup of your data. RAID-0 is a very risky means of storing your data if you do not maintain a backup. Data Backup vs. Redundancy

Even if you were space constrained, creating two Standard Volumes comes with less risk than using RAID-0, which has a single point of failure for 100% of your data.

SORTED!!!!

I ran the set up software and it detected the device, but with a different IP address... the last part had changed from .32 to .10...

I quit running it, entered the new IP in to the browser and done. Weird!!

The drive light is still down, but maybe that's cuz I've only got 25% capacity left or something.

Thanks everyone for your input.

dgb  ;D

edit - I'll put 2 x 3TB in next time and make sure it striped to Raid1!!
