DIR-655 Rev B Only v2.10NA FW Released - Update 11/27/2012
« on: November 17, 2012, 03:38:45 PM »

Get it here:
DIR-655 Rev B v2.10NA

Let us know how it works for you.

Please try, test and use the router out of the box with the version that comes loaded on it first. All routers are tested before leaving the Mfr and do work well out of the box. There many external conditions or configurations that should be reviewed first if problems are found before considering updating FW. Come to the D-Link Forums and get help before upgrading firmware.

Update: 2/2013
The Canadian DLink web site had a beta version that is officially posted. It seems to fix and resolve the wireless Guest Zone issue. It can be used on NA units as well. It seems to have been removed.  ???

Will keep you posted on where and when it might be officially posted again.

Please let us know how it works for you.

NOTICE: Might be an issue with Guest Zone and v2.10NA. I have verified what one other user is seeing with an iPhone 4 disconnecting frequently. I can't get a Mac Book Pro to connect and my iPhone 4S exhibits the same thing. I would recommend holding off using v2.10NA until we get more information on this. v2.03 and v2.07 work well and do not exhibit this.

If anyone else notices this behavior, Please post here:

 >:(  I installed Firmware Vers 2.10 on 26 Nov on my DIR 655.    I have a wifi network (3 users), plus my PC, NAS drive, and SONOS music system cabled to the router.   I also use the mac address network filter for the wifi.  I am just an average user for knowledge and capability.   This update caused a lot of problems (my PC at times could not access the internet) (my NAS drive was not on the network) (SONOS system had no access to the internet, the controller,  or the controller on our pc's).   After a week of experimenting (and D-LInk's help was to do a router reset and reinstall -  I did this 3 times to no avail).   I finally turned off the network filter,  and it appears my problems have gone away (at least for the last 5 days).   I would advise no one to upgrade to Vers 2.10 until D-Link has corrected their firmware.    Has anyone else had this problem.

You can down grade to v2.07 or v2.03. This newer version v2.10 is not recommended at this time. Was there a reason to upgrade to v2.10? What FW version was previously loaded on it? Did you perform a factory reset before and after updating to v2.10?

I have forwarded this onto DLink for review. Please downgrade to one of the other versions mentioned. Let us know if you need help. Please follow this:
FW Update Process

Let us know how it goes.

FN -  Thanks for the reply and info.   In answer to your questions,  I did the firmware upgrade after I saw it on the router pages.   I was checking some of my settings and saw it then.  I did not see anything which said to not do an update(must not have looked thoroughly).   I was on vers 2.00 before.   I did not save that software, and now that was probably a mistake.    The router reset automatically per the instructions.  As I said prior,  I did several additional resets per D-Link's suggestions.
If you have suggestions on how I get back to vers 7, that would help me.   I have actually been operating okay on vers 2.10 for 10 days now (with the network filter turned off).   Do you have other suggestions?
This is the first time I have ever posted on a forum.  I noticed you have a special category.   Can you give me an explanation.   Thanks.

Users have seen some problems which I have verified as well with Guest Zone not working correctly with some devices.

I would download the v2.07 or v2.03 version from the main web page. Unpack the .bin file from the .zip file that was downloaded. Do a factory reset using the routers web page under Tools/System. Upload the .bin file that was unpacked from the .zip file and apply the file. After the file loads and the router reboots, log back into the router and do one more factory reset. After the reset you should be good to go to configure the router.

DIR-655 Rev B Only v2.10NA FW Released - Update 11/27/2012
« Reply #6 on: December 12, 2012, 11:27:39 AM »

I also upgraded  :-[ to the new 2.10 firmware. I am also having a problem with the guest zone no longer working. All manner of configuration changes are of no help. The main zone works fine.

It is now time to downgrade to the 2.07 version of the firmware. D-Link definitely has a problem with the 2.10 version of the firmware. It was not tested adequately and never should have been released. For an otherwise good product this does nothing but leave a significant black mark.

I upgraded because the release comments indicated working better with IOS 6 devices. Only if you are not using the guest zone. Using the guest zone IOS 6 devices work like others on the guest zone. None of them work.

Thank you for your information. Dlink has been made aware of the issue. v2.07 and 2.03 have been verified that GZ still works. Let us know how the down grade goes. Please follow the FW Upate Process for downgrading.

I finally had time to go back and remove version 2.10 and install 2.07, as you suggested.   After getting 2.07 installed and resetting the router,  I put my network mac addresses in the network filter and turned it on.   MY wife's pc could not access the network and our SONOS music system (cabled directly to the router) also could not access the network.  I have my NAS drive powered down, and did not try it.   I then went back into the router and turned off the mac address network filter.   After saving the changes,  my wife's pc had access to the network and our SONOS music system also had access.  My conclusion is that version 2.07 had the same problem as 2.10.  In looking back at my notes when the filter was working,  I was on version 2.00.   If you have additional suggestions,  please let me know.

You might want to keep PCs out of the Mac Filter for now unless you have a major concern of other devices being on your network. If there isn't a big concern here, I would not use Mac Filtering as normally it's not used. I'm also wondering if it had been working on v2.00, it could have been a security hole they fixed and when using Mac Filtering is supposed to block areas on the network. Just a though here. I'll see if I can reproduce this on my 655 and see what happens.

Can you detail me on how your setting up the filters? Each stop and settings are you using?

Hopefully I am giving yoiu what you need.   The only filter I activated is under the Advanced Tab, Network  Filter  (Mac Filteirng Rules).  I put my pc's LAN address (although not needed I presume), our notebook's address, my wife's pc address, and my Nook's address.   The last three are on the home network.  I do nothing with the Guest Zone,  IPV6 (or associated firwall).   I did notice when checking these,  that my date and time were incorrect (showing Jan, 2012).   If that can have any effect on the firmware operation,  this date has probably been incorrect for several months.

Have you also tried to put the SONOs device(s) in the Filter as well? I wonder if things that are being filtered need to include ALL devices. I'll check on this if I can get a chance too. I'm currently testing a DIR-865L out. I'll try this here first and see if I can connect to my File Server that houses things.

For time, I always get a NTP time server so that during any reboot, the router should get correct time from the internet.

FN -  Thanks for the quick reply.  When on vers 2.00,  I did have the SONOS components in the network filter (and the NAS drive).   I had no problems.   When I upgraded to 2.10,  I also tried the network filter with these components in the filter;  and had the problems (with or without them in the filter).  I should add that the NAS drive is cabled directly to the router.   Am I correct,  that the NAS mac address then does not need to be in the network filter?   The SONOS music system is on its own network, but cabled to the router from the SONOS bridge.   Am I also correct,  that the SONOS then does not need to be in the network filter?

I would not use any Mac Filtering at the moment. Need narrow down what is going on.

One thing I would highly recommend that would help great to gain access to networked devices and eliminating any router process or interferences, get you a external Gb network switch. This will help in getting your LAN devices connected well and gain a better access experience to them and between devices. Even using a switch, you can still use the router to get internet and manage things like IP addressing and filters, however any possibilities of router interferences should be reduced.
