DNS-321 bay failure?
« on: November 19, 2012, 08:48:27 PM »

I have a DNS-321 that was working great up until a few days ago when one of the bay LED lights turned white.  I thought it was a drive failure so I pulled it out and the NAS will work find with one drive.  As soon as I put in another drive into the 2nd bay, the LED turns white and the NAS cannot connect.  I try visiting the IP address and it just hangs until I power off, remove the drive out of the problem bay and turn it back on.  Is the NAS screwed?  Will a firmware upgrade possibly help?  I am at version 1.00 and have never upgraded the firmware.

You may want to consider performing a factory reset.  While the DNS-321 is powered-up, press and hold the reset button on the rear of the unit for > 8 seconds.  This will restore the DNS-321 to the factory default settings, but should not impact your data or HDD formatting.  You will, however, lose your user settings (e.g. shares, passwords, etc.).

Upgrading the firmware should not impact your existing data or HDD formatting either.
