How to connect Internet Lan IP Directly
« on: December 11, 2012, 07:47:54 AM »

Hi,

We have a DIR 655 router that I have set up with LAN and WiFi, all good.

Today we received our mast and antenna from Vodacom (ISP) with the Public IP's to enter into the router. We connected the LAN cable into the Internet Port and did a manual Internet Static IP setup.  But as soon as we click save it says:  Type is not for 3G...

How do I go about entering the public (static) IP's we received from the ISP in order to get the Internet operational?

Thank you so much!

Link>Welcome!
What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.
What region are you located?

Has a Factory Reset been performed?

What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?

What option are you using for under Setup/Internet/Manual? Does using DHCP work at at all?

Also might need to check the MTU values as well. Ask your ISP what it should be.

Hi, thanks!

I was in Nigeria and set up the router (LAN and WiFi) and got all the PC's and server working as it should.  But the guys had to wait for the ISP to install the Internet.  I am back in South Africa and trying to help them remotely.  Hence, waiting to get those details to you.

The ISP put a Cell Tower up (maybe a Mikrotik Antenna?) with one Cat5e cable coming into the DLink router.  Now the guys need to enter the Public IP's, Subnet, GW and DNS into the correct place in the router so that natting can work properly.

Well if there is only IP addresses and such to input into the router, Static IP should work. I would try DHCP to see if maybe there ISP system will automatically hand off addressing to the router. This is a specialized set up from the sound of it so you may want to contact the ISP support directly to get there help.

Please let us know the Rev and FW version for the DIR-655. You may want to contact your local regional DLink support office as well.

Details for DIR 655:

H/W Ver=B1 and F/W Ver=2.00
ISP's "modem": Cambridge Broadband Networks Ethernet Wall Box (not sure what this is).

Thanks for your suggestions!

Got it sorted!  Instead of doing a manual Internet set up, I tried the Internet wizard and there we go.  The Internet is working fine.

Thanks!
