No internet connection
« on: December 26, 2012, 04:41:33 PM »

Hi all,

Posting here out of desperation for help with this device. Attempting to use it as a repeater to boost my wifi just a few more meters. Router: DIR-615, original firmware: 1.03

At first, all went well with the fast setup. Managed to connect with the router no problems, used a wi-fi analyser and found the repeater broadcasting well. Initially, used the same original network ID. Reset all my wifi configurations on my phone and tried to reconnect. Connected to the network, but would not get any internet. Every internet page I tried to open, I would get 404 not found or be redirected to the repeater admin page.

After a couple of resets, resetting up the wifi wizard, gave up and looked online. Saw some people with the same problem, all who seem to do a firmware upgrade. Performed factory resets both before and after, upgraded to 1.04.

This time, I used a separate network ID to try and isolate the issue with the just the repeater signal. This time, just unable to connect to the internet at all. On my PC, would come up as limited connectivity and on my phone would not even connect.

Any help would be great,

RJ.

I would do a factory reset of the 505 using the pin hole button and then use the onboard wizard to help you to configure it for Repeater mode to use with your main host wifi router.

What make and model is the main host router?
What wireless wireless modes is the main host router using? Try using Mixed G and N modes only. Recommended WiFi security is WPA2 and AES. Some older adapters don't support AES or try using AUTO TPIK/AES.

Not sure of Repeater mode, but in  Router mode I find it necessary to manually enter a DNS address in the Web Menu:  Settings | Internet Setup | Manual options, enter 208.67.222.222 (OpenDNS), and then Save at the top of the page. Otherwise, no internet access. Hotspot takes care of this automatically, that is, the DHCP Request from the 505 receives the main router DNS and Gateway with no problem.

Suggest you poke around the Repeater Web Menu to see if it's possible to enter a DNS address.

If you need more help, I'll get my Repeater mode cranking to see what's up.

--------------
I find v1.04 is working well for me in both Router and Hotspot modes.
