UPnP refresh
« on: January 16, 2013, 01:14:34 AM »

HI

I am using this NAS to store all my music and movies so that all pc's and PS3 on my netwok can access them. The issue Ihave is the refresh on the UPnP page.

If I add new files to the NAS they are not visible to the PS3 until the NAS has done a refresh. It is not doing an auto refresh so i have to manually select it. This is the problem. It does a complete refresh of the entire drive ( a process that is taking about 3 days at a time).

This is unacceptably slow as I frequently add new content to the  NAS. It currently has 1TB of data on it and I cant imagine how slow it will be once the amount of data increases.

Any advice?

Hi,

glad to read, that I´m not completely allone with this problem  ;)

I have exactly the same problem with all my UPnP Clients.

I already connected the German D-Link Support, but the problem is not known there.
I also updatet the device to Firmware version 1.02 (beta), which was recommended by the support.

After the update and setting the device back to factory default (including a complete Refresh, 13 hours), I copied three video files (each about 270MB) onto the NAS and everything seems to be OK, after 10 seconds they were visible on the X-Box Media-Center, on my Sony TV and on my iPad.

Then I copied a bigger movie, about 2 GB...and after 2 days it isn´t already visible...
Copied again some smaller parts...not visible at all.

I´m very upset about this situation...it´s the most important feature for me.

So also...any advice?

Greetings from Germany...

Take a look at the UPnP server topics in the neighbouring threads (320 and 325). I am sure, the 320L firmware uses the same outdated FireFly mediaserver with all the consequences.

I got the same problem.... just refreshed the whole library and it took 26h.
Not very funny. If it's an "old" and known problem, there is no fix for this?

Some other UPnP server, I'm afraid.
E.g. Twonky Mediaserver enables you to either specify media rescan interval with 1 minute precision, and also the server is able to watch content folders automatically for new content without the need for rescans.

Thanks.
I installed the TwonkyMedia Server. There are some tutorials and it's very easy to use.
Now my media library was refreshed in 12 minutes. Very nice!

A german tutorial: http://wolf-u.li/nas/tutorials/ffp/

I also installed the Twonky Mediaserver and it works very fine so far, really fast refreshing.
Unfortunately there are known problems with Twonky and Sony Bravia TVs.
If i try to start a video, nothing happens...black screen...  :-\

In the next step, i will try to install Serviio...in the meantime i use Twonky with XBMC on AppleTV.

I will also contact the german support once again with a link to this thread...and will let you know about the result.

Nice weekend
Olli
