I tell you, I'm a Mac user for eons. I've come to the conclusion that SharePort just isn't worth the effort to try to get to work. It will always be buggy here because the developers seem to just not be dedicated to trying to embrace the Mac folks. That's their decision, but honestly, considering the overpriced Apple Airport line, they're missing an opportunity here--especially in the current economic downturn. I know that I heard about the DIR-655 on either Tekzilla or GeekBrief, where it came highly recommended as a ''much cheaper alternative.'' My experience with it has been otherwise. It's cheaper--but you get what you pay for I guess.
Seriously, though, and this is what I did before--and I wonder what mental disconnect I had that made me not just plug the dang printer into one of the Macs on the network and just share it--like I used to. I can tell you that works like a charm. Totally reliable. No tinkering. Other Macs see it. Windows sees it. Printing happens.
We're Mac users for Pete's sake. Our stuff just plain works (more or less if you pretend MobileMe doesn't exist--haha). Why torture ourselves ''trying to fix what ain't broke?''
