Really bad download speeds with DIR655
« on: January 28, 2013, 12:58:54 PM »

So, i've got the 655 and i've got a 100 Mbit/s connection.

When im connected directly to the modem i ALWAYS get 108 Mbit/s down and 10.5 Mbit/s up. (ISP never gone over 25% capacity)

But when im connected to the DIR655, my DL never goes above 70 Mbit/s. (This is through cable)
Sometimes it's as low as 1 or 2 Mbit/s down, but i've got 10 Mbit/s upload even though the download sucks.
Also, if i run a torrent or similiar with more than 50 connections, internet basically dies except that specific download which runs at about 1 MB/s (8 Mbit/s)

Things i've done so far

* Reset the router 10 times
* Upgraded the FW
* Turned WiFI off
* Disabled QoS and all that other stuff that's suggested to do.
* Turned off the DNS relay
* Changed my TP cables
* Tried with different computers connected (To rule away a trojan or something hogging the bandwidth)

Nothing seems to work.
I've got the EU, Rev B one.

Any suggestions on what one might do to fix this problem?

Link>Welcome!

Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.
What region are you located?

Has a Factory Reset been performed?

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?

Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1. Use IE, Opera or FF to manage the router.
Turn off ALL QoS or Disable Traffic Shaping (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.

Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking. This ensures each devices gets its own IP address when turned on and connected, eliminates IP address conflicts and helps in troubleshooting.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.
Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking. Disable uPnP for testing Port Forwarding rules.
WAN Port Speed set to Auto or specific speed? Some newer ISP modems support 1000Mb so manually setting to Gb speeds can be supported by the router. Advanced/Advanced Networking/WAN Port Speed
Set current Time Zone, Date and Time. Use an NTP server feature. Tools/Time.
If IPv6 is an option, select Local Connection Only or Disable IPv6 options under Setup/IPv6.

Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.

Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing.

Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Link> Cat6 is recommended.

Hardware Version: B1     Firmware Version: 2.00RU
It's a cable connection, and the modem is a CIsco EPC3010.

I've changed between 3 different Firmwares, so it's not due to using the RU version.
Disabled everything you mentioned, still no go.

What region are you located?

What what originally loaded on the router? before RU? Is this an actual RU router or from a EU region? If from a EU region, which one?

Has a factory reset been performed and the router set up from scratch?

Has this router been working at all or is this something that has changed recently?
How long have you had this router?
Any Television line splitters on the cable line going from the outside into the ISP modem? Recommended is a dedicated cable line or if a T.V. line splitter is needed, use 1 good quality one.

Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask.

Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.
Temporarily turn OFF SPI and test.

If you are upgrading or downgrading FW, please follow this process:
