hi all, thanks for reading.
I received a 826l for Christmas so i could connect my hard disk dock and get access to my media drives across my network. worked great, access to both drives (double dock, independent power supply) via windows explorer by mapping the drives as \\192.168.0.1\usb_A1 and A2 respectively. The dock died, no idea why, but would not function one day. got a new one. Now in the router setup both drives appear, first as A1 and A2, but i could not access A2 via the network, giving me a network path not found error. I then proceeded to upgrade the FW on the router to 1.03, the drives are now showing up as A1 and B1 respectively. I can still access A1 but B1 is still not found. when i do get on A1, there is a folder called usb_b1, and all it does is link back to the Root of the A1 drive. I have tried to adjust the permissions in storage setup. created a new user and tried to log in with the credentials setup both the admin and the new user created. still no joy.

Any ideas what could be wrong? both hard disks when connected directly to a computer come up clean and stable.

currently: its an 826l FW 1.03, running two .5 terrabyte drives formatted ntfs.

Are these drives connected with external power adapters or just using the power thru the USB cable connected to the router?

Either drive is connect directly to the back of the router and not using a USB hub?

its connected to a powered dock. two 3.5 drives at .5 TB each. one drive will work, the other wont. i can switch the drives in the dock and get the other to work, but not the first. connected to a computer both drives read clean. both show up in the router storage setup, but only one can be connected to remotely. no USB hub. dock is directly connected to usb port.

Is there a make and model for this dock?

If one drive is working and the other isn't, i presume the problem could be else where.

Was a Factory reset performed both before and after sending the FW update?

the dock is a thermal take black X duet. dual SATA drive dock. I have reason to beleive that the dock isnt the problem because when its connected to a computer (any computer in the house, including my android tablet throught the adapter) both drives read properly. the dock was purchased from newegg.ca.

So using 1 drive at a time seems to work however using both installed in the dock, only 1 works but the other does not?

thats it. i can switch the drives in the dock, but only 1 drive is accessible at a time. i physically have to switch them positions to get them to work, but both are showing the storage screen of the router setup, and when i try to map the drive in windows explorer, drive 1 works (usb_A1) but the second shows up on the storage screen but i get a "path not found error" when trying to map it. additionally, there are two folders on drive A1, usb_a1 and usb_b1 on the root of either drive when in the proper position for access, but all they do is link me back to the root of the drive. so giant circle.

I presume that there is probably a USB connection issue here between the router and the dock and possibly that this router or any DIR series router is not designed to handle multiple simultaneous USB drive connections.

If one drive at a time is working, this is probably the only supported way for these routers to work with USB drives. Most connected drives are normally handled in this fashion with these routers. Specially due to the storage function and features of the 826L. Probably set and designed to look and manage one drive at a time.

I recommend that if your looking for more information regarding this, please phone contact your local DLink support office and ask for level 2 or higher support and ask about simultaneous drive connections with DIR series routers.

I will give them a call when i can. im hoping tomorrow morning at the latest. I brought the problem here because it worked before the first dock died and the replacement arrived, as well as the fact that both drives are displayed in the storage setup page.

ok, this router is really starting to upset me. now all of a sudden only one drive is displaying. so i downgraded to 1.02 firmware, and its still only one... I called support, got number is not available (im in montreal, doesnt surprise me if the number is out of province.) emailed them today, hopefully they will provide more info on compatibility.

You mentioned in your initial post that you had your initial Disk Dock went down on you. I'm wondering if it broke, what else did it break.  Possible that something on the router is now faulty due to the initial disk dock breaking.
