Hello, just registered to ask about my issue.

Now, I bought a DHP-309AV Starter kit back in FALL 2012, and ever since the first month, I've been having nothing but problems with it.

Everyday, my connection just stop working for like 6-7 times day, and the only way to fix it is to replug the adapter. Its only the adapter that drops the connection where as my wireless devices still work fine.

The router and modem are located in the first floor, where as my computer is located in the basement, basically underneath the floor the router/modem are on. My router is D-link DIR-655 Revision B

The plug that runs from the main room only has the router and the adapted connected to it, where as the one that runs into the basement, has a power bar and the adapter connected to it. The power bar has my PC, Monitor, and printer connected to it.

Anyone have any suggestions as to what could be the problem?

What region are you located?

Has a Factory Reset been performed on both router and DHP devices?

Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1. Use IE, Opera or FF to manage the router.

Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking. This ensures each devices gets its own IP address when turned on and connected, eliminates IP address conflicts and helps in troubleshooting.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
If IPv6 is an option on the router, select Local Connection Only or Disable IPv6 options under Setup/IPv6.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.
Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking. Disable uPnP for testing Port Forwarding rules.
WAN Port Speed set to Auto or specific speed? Some newer ISP modems support 1000Mb so manually setting to Gb speeds can be supported by the router. Advanced/Advanced Networking/WAN Port Speed
Set current Time Zone, Date and Time. Use an NTP server feature. Tools/Time.

I would remove the power bar and directly connect the one DHP device into the wall socket along with the PC and re-test. We need to rule out any problems of using the power bar.

I would also test the DHP device in the same room as the main router and main DHP device to make sure they are working correctly there, then move the remote DHP device to the the room where you want it and test again.

Hello, thanks for the welcome.

1) I think the hardware version is the one that came out first. I think it was released late in the summer, which is the version i grabbed.

2) I've been having this issue with both the out of the box and latest firmware on my router.

3) I am located in Ontario, Canada

The thing is, I actually bought a new router thinking it was initially a router problem, but the problem still occurred. Also, before the switch to powerline, I use to use the DWA-552 PCI card, which was wireless and I had no issues except the stability of the connection and random drops in latency.

- DHCP is set up for my PC, initial thing I do when setting up a new router.
- They are set on auto
- IPv6 was disabled
- Firewall was disabled and were set to Endpoint Independent for both TCP/UDP previously
- Multi-cast and uPnP were already enabled
- WAN set to Auto
- Timezones was already set

Like I mentioned in my first post, the Power-lines are directly connected to the wallsocket, in both rooms.

Also, thanks for moving the thread, couldn't find the 309 subforum so posted in the general section :P

Router has been factory reset multiple times, but I'm not sure how to factory reset a Powerline Adapter, or the DHP-309AV to be exact.

EDIT: A thing i forgot to mentioned. When I lose the connected to PC through the Powerline, I can't even access the router web page, but am able to on my wireless devices.

EDIT2: Nevermind, figured out how to reset it. The issue happened against literally 5 min after i reset it.

Im going to recommend that you phone contact DLink support and ask for level 2 or higher support. If you've set up the devices correctly and everything connected to them, they should be working well unless there could be a mis-configuration or problem on the line that causing them to stop functioning.

I'd be interested in any followup to this. I'm getting the same issue, starting about 1 month after purchase. I get a fast and solid connection interspersed with total disconnects where the downstream adapter can't see the router (D-link DIR-655) on the other side. It resolves in a minute or two, or instantly if I replug the adapter. Unfortunately, interrupting the connection makes watching streaming video or playing games bad.

DIR-655 HW version is B1, firmware is 2.00NA. It is my main host router. I see there is a newer firmware version, so I am going to try upgrading to that to see if it helps.

I upgraded the firmware and reset the router. Condition of DHP-309AV disconnects persists.

I downloaded a java app to monitor internet connectivity (it pings google every 5 seconds), and ran it on my laptop connected to the 309AV receiver in the same room as the transmitter hooked up to the router. It ran without any disconnections for about 5 hours this morning. I then moved the 309AV back to my office and connected it up to my PC there and ran the app. There have been 6 disconnections in 2 hours, most of which  were short (less than 10 seconds - the app only missed 1 ping) and one was longer (missed 5 pings). I take it the issue is with my house wiring than? I guess it might be time to run cat-5 through the attic...

So ya, you tested the Same Room scenario then back to where you want the unit and your seeing differences. Seems that you need to check the wiring for between the room where the main router is and where your wanting to place the unit.

If your going to run LAN cable, I recommend going CAT 6. Doesn't hurt to future proof some and it's cheap to upgrade.  ;)

Greetings.
I've also been having a bit of this problem. I haven't checked if the problem persists if I move both powerlink units to the router room.

I use this computers internet connection mainly to play games.
It seems that the problem is more severe if the data flow come in more bursts than continually.
For example: Hearthstone (blizzard) I get frequent disconnects in, while World of Warcraft, Heroes of the Storm, League of Legends there rarely are any problems. Playing Path of Exile is also unstable.
Downloading files have never been a problem, but when streaming from youtube these disconnects can be frequent, and sometimes also when using Spotify.

I am using a DHP-310AV device (sweden), Hardware version A1, Firmware 1.01, the router is an 3COM Officeconnect 802.11 Gateway version 1.02.15.
The powerlink goes through the power station (live in a flat, so not the biggest one), approximately a total of 20 meters. The data flow is low, but that doesn't matter, what's irritating is the disconnects.

The router doesn't have a IPV6 option. DHCP is on. Powerlink IPV6 on Link-local only. Time is updated.

Doesn't exist.


My current workaround is to always have a browser window open with the powerlink page, and make it do stuff like scanning for networks or rebooting it. The reboot time is too long for gaming applications though.
