In a near future I'm planning to purchase a range extender/repeater for my DIR-825, I'm looking for a device that supports dual band, just as the DIR-825 and that is fully compatible, and if possible that offers the same features.

What I'd like to do is to fully extend my DIR-825 coverage.

Is there any tested and fully functional D-Link repeater/range extender/AP that could be used for such purpose? I'm aware that D-Link has several models, but would like to know if there is any specfic deviced that "plays nice" without any issue with the DIR-825.

Check out the DAP-1522, 1533 or 1525...

Those DAP models (1522, 1533 or 1525) have being tested with DIR 827? are there 100% compatible and would work without any issue?

What abour DAP 2553?

I don't know officially if those models have been tested however should work well regardless. The 1533 should work well since it can support the 450Mb WiFi, Even though the 827 only does 300Mbx300Mb on each radio. The other models support 300Mb. The 1533 would be good, would give you some over head should you get a router later on down the road, liek the 857 which supports the 450Mbx450Mb radios.

I don't have any experience with the 2553, however thats a business or enterprise call AP so if you really have a need for it, I would stick with one of the other home and small business models.

Just want to give you an update of my compatibility tests and my WiFi status.

Finally the Linksys RE1000 arrived past Friday, Initially I just changed my DIR 827 from Wireless G to Wireless B G and N. At this moment the DWL-G700AP was still on the second floor and connected. on my first flooor I used RE1000 CD wizard, the installation was very straight and easy, but at this point the RE1000 was loosing the connection to DIR 827 very often. even that the RE1000 was very close (30cm)

RE1000 has a status page where you can check the status of the link and how long it has being connected. So by checking that the link lasted at most 1 minute and then again the RE1000 was reconnecting.
When it's reconnecting the WiFi coverage provided dissapears for about 20 or 30 seconds (the time it takes to reconnect).

So I started to check Linksys forums and noticed this was a common issue  the solutions they provided included setting a static IP, changing the MTU of the router to 1400, chaning the channel width to 20 Mhz, and doing a manual configuration of the WiFi instead of letting the wizard to do this for you. On the manual settings you can specify the type on WiFi encryption and override the WPS.

So I did that, tried combination of this, even tried to change my DIR 827 again to Wirless G, but the issue was still the same.

So my first impression was that the RE1000 was a crap!

BUT later I remember that the DWL-G700AP was still working on the second floor. So I went upstair and diconnected it.

After that I went back downstairs and decided to again let the RE1000 Wizard guide me. Now the results were better, a lot better compared to the connection not lasting more than 30 seconds, It lasted about 2 hours and then I decided to go to sleep and let the RE1000 on. I was hopping in the morning to see that the RE has not reconnected, nut that was not the case, now the uplink uptime was in 13 minutes.

By checking the RE1000 log I noticed that it constantly pings the gateway, and when no response is given then it reconnects again.

The log has some events like that, not being able to connect to 192.168.0.1

Later I decided to do another factory reset to the DIR 827 and leave anything untouched, just changed the LAN, WAN and Wireless settings, that was all that I modified.

Even the 5Ghz channel was on.

Now I do a factory reset to the RE1000 and again used the suppplied CD.

And now it seems more stable, it has being 34 minutes of uplink uptime (while I was writing this message).  Oh and now I've placed the RE1000 at the second floor.

I'll keep up checking and hope that the RE1000 never has to reconnect or at least give me an uplink uptime of several hours.

Now I've removed the DWL-G700AP.
Will comments when additional info appears.

Finally I have a question FurryNutz:

Does D-LINK has any access point or repeater with Dual Band but that supports repeating or extending at the same time the 2.4GHz and 5GHz? the models you mention and according to the secs, none of them offer extending the two channels AT the same time?

You might check out the DAP-1360. I know the 1525 only does AP or Bridging. You might look at the DIR-505 or 506Ls as well.

I'll do some digging and see what I an find out which one does repeating.

Hi FurryNutz, thanks for the information. If you are able to suggest a repeater or extender that is fully compatible with the DIR 827? proved to work without any hiccup?

And that is able to fully repeat or extend both channels simultaneously.

About my testings:
At this moment that I'm writing this post, it has being 1 hour 23 mins of the RE1000 connected (hope it remains that way!)

I forgot to inform that I changed the WiFI security for both bands to WPA2 and AES.

Update. the RE1000 reported an uptime of almost 7 hours 

Now to avoid some disconnection and reconnection issues with the WiFi clients I've changed the auto channel for 2.4 and 5 Ghz to 11

Obviously the RE1000 reconnected.

But so far it seems that those settings are working

FurryNutz, is there any specific purpose for your DIR 827? how will you use it?

I've finally managed to get a reliable WiFi and Internet. the Linksys RE1000 uptime was for about 12 hours, then it reconnected but that's ok with me, since the location where the RE1000 is placed sometimes the signal received is 2 bars instead of 3, but having 12 hour of uptime and having good WiFi and internet at the 2nd floor is pretty good !.

I've just made a minor change in my DIR 827: added the RE1000 IP top the reserver DHCP stack, this only for easy access to the RE1000 management web page.

But at this point I can confirm that the RE1000 is compatible with the DIR 827 

I don't know why applying a factory reset AND also a firmware reload to the DIR 827 improved everything.
But for my experience to make the DIR 827 and RE1000 work together I used the default DIR 827 values and just changed the basic Internet, Wireless and network (to match my network needs).
the channel width for the 2.4 Ghz band is set to auto 20/40 Mhz.

And for the RE1000 I just used the supplied CD wizard and nothing else, that is, after using the wizard and reporting that the RE1000 has being successfully configured I just placed my RE1000 on the desired location.

My 827 is being used as the main host router.

The 2.4Ghz radio is general internet usage however yesterday I tested it out playing xbox gaming while connected to it. My roommate was connected to the 5Ghz radio while gaming. Seemed solid for us however we did see odd gaming behavior that we attributed to the game servers and other players. I mainly gaming via wired LAN connection.

Other than this, just standard router use. I downloaded a few things and uploaded an item via yahoo messenger to a buddy in a different state while gaming no less. All was good. No disconnects or gaming issues seen.

Again, I use WPA2 and AES only on both radios. Auto 20/40Mhz. Auto channel scan on 5Ghz and Manual channel set to 11.

I have one QoS rule for gaming set to a priority of 50 for the 2 xboxes. One other QoS rule for ALL other devices set to a priority of 128.

Life is good on the 827.

Hi again.

Today something odd happened, My laptop was connected to the 5Ghz band since yesterday, everything was ok but suddenly today at 10:00am approx my laptop was connected to the 5Ghz wiFi but with limited connectivity  . the 2.4GHz WiFi was ok as so the Internet. So I'm going to disable the 5Ghz WiFi, since I only have 3 devices that could use it: PS3, iPad and my laptop.

I will focus on my 2.4Ghz WiFi and I've just purchased a D-Link DAP-1360 I will do some tests with it and with the Linksys RE1000.

Does anyone has successfully used the DIR 827 with the DAP 1360? any comments?

the Linksys RE1000 works fine, the Wifi and internet drop issues seems to be caused by the DIR-827, on that post I indicate the changes I made to the DIR-827.

Now I have unplugged the RE1000 and just connected the DAP-1360, the DAP-1360 seems to works fine but for some reason the "conncted wireless client list" reports that connection with the DIR-827 last no more than 19630 secs (or 5.4 hours) on that list there are other clients but it's ok for those clients to last less.

I hope that the changed made to the DIR-827 solve the issues of Wireless and/or internet over WiFi dropping or not working, and that it also gives me a more connection time between the DAP-1360 and DIR-827.

but based on my finding the DAP-1360 is compatible with DIR-827, I will read all the post of wifi and internet issues for the DIR 827
