Is it possible to hookup a printer using Shareport?
« on: May 07, 2013, 06:16:32 PM »

I plugged the printer into the DIR-655 and downloaded Shareport.

Nothing.

HP Laserjet 1320

If Shareport can not be used, which one of the programs on that page might work?

What HW version is your router?
What FW is currently loaded?
What version of SP are you using?
Does the printer have a LAN connection as well or only USB?

What version of SP are you using? 3.1.0 R1
Does the printer have a LAN connection as well or only USB?  Not sure how to answer this.  I did find the information below.

Does the printer have 2 connections in back? There are a couple of models and you need to look at the printer you have and see if there is a LAN port or just a USB port connection on the printer. The LAN port connection looks like a large phone plug. Would be black.

No LAN port.  Just USB port.

This is probably relevant, but not sure what to make of it.

External network print servers are available for the HP LaserJet 1160 and HP LaserJet 1320 series printers. The following table identifies what is required to add networking to any HP LaserJet 1160 or HP LaserJet 1320 series printer.

Can a router be substituted for an external network print server?

I would try the latest shareport SW:
http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=50707.0

You may have to update FW on the router as well. Not completely sure if the new v4 version of SP will work on a Rev A router.

The router can be used as a print connection to the printer via the USB port and using SP on each PC that needs access to the printer.

If this doesn't work, DLink makes a USB to LAN print server that you might want to review and consider using.
http://www.dlink.com/us/en/support/product/dpr-1040-wireless-g-multifunctional-print-server-10-100mbs-1-usb-port

HP makes print servers as well.
