DNS320 disconnecting from the network
« on: May 30, 2013, 12:58:43 PM »

I have been using DNS320 for quite a long time now (more than a year, maybe two), and never had any problems with it.
Few days ago it started disconnecting by itself from the network, and i could not access it at all (web interface or network shares). It just disappears from the network, tried to access it from everywhere but no luck(PC, Laptop, Raspberry Pi, TV, Phone). After a hard reset its back on line. The unit itself is working, all the lights are on, HDD-s are spinning, cooling fan is working.
I think that Raspberry Pi running openelec, is somehow causing this. I did some testing this morning by unplugging the Rpi, and when i came back home 8 hours later NAS was on line, I tried a 1080p video file on my TV and it played with no problems, but as soon as i started the Rpi and selected the same file, it went offline.
Please help, I use my NAS a lot, and last few days have been a true nightmare. ???

I unplugged the Raspberry Pi last night, and when i woke up this morning NAS was offline, so this eliminates it as a cause of the problem.

Can you access the DNS-320 web UI from a browser using a PC on a same LAN as the DNS-320?

My PC and Laptop are both wireless, but next time this happens i will hook my laptop with a LAN cable and check. But i sincerely doubt it, since my Raspberry Pi is connected via LAN, and was unable to access it.

Even through wireless (on the same LAN), what happens when you enter the DNS-320 IP address in a browser?

It's possible that the DNS-320 IP address changed. Log into your router and validate the IP address.
Are you using a static IP address in the DNS-320? Reserved IP address from the router side?

It opens the login page, and after that it displays "page cannot be found...."
I have a static IP on my NAS, and it is not reserved on the router side(i tried to do that, but it is showing the wireless connections only, DIR-615 router)

Is the browser really finding the login page or is it just pulling the page from cache?  Can you clear the browser cache and history and see what happens?

Waiting for it to happen again, but for the last 24 hours it has been working properly.

Is it possible that downloading torrents may have caused this. During those days i have been downloading 2 large torrents at the same time, but since they finished downloading it did not happen again, coincidence ???

You can try to replicate the issue a couple of times by starting two concurrent torrents.  That approach will give you a definitive answer.

I tried to replicate the issue several times by downloading large torrent files (two concurrent downloads), but it did not happen again. There was something about those two in particular that caused my NAS to disconnect ???

You can always try to use those two particular torrents to replicate.  But it sounds like something else may be going on.
