After having another quick go at trying to get this DNS320 to work again I'm in a really grumpy mood so be warned!

I bought a DNS320 2 years ago with plans to set it up to hold my iTunes library and look after my Time Machine backups, after all that is what it said on the tin. I was looking forwards to connecting to the PS3 to to stream a few movies too.

On and off over the 2 years I've tried failed repeatedly to get this black box to do something useful and each time I've switched it on I've wasted hours trying to get a reliable setup then had to give up. When I give up I'm either saying I'll try again when I've got another 2 hours to waste or make excuses saying I'll wait for the next firmware.

Is it me or is it unreasonable to expect when you buy something that says it is Mac, Time Machine and iTunes compatible, it actually should be? I feel I've been very patient with this and tried numerous times over 2 years to get it to work and now am stumped as to what to do. My feeling is D-Link have literally stolen my money - I have been conned. I've been patient with the product, trying hard to get it to work when it really shouldn't be this bad.

I think back as to how much time and money this thing has cost me! ARRRGGGHHH!

I've had another hunt around the forums and I can't see any signs of promise. I'm not feeling confident enough to waste any more time. Has anyone got this thing to work reliably on their Mac for time machine and iTunes?

Rant over, for now .....

It could be you (notice I said could), or it could be Apple, who it appears, has now stated they will have to do something about AFP and sharing files over a network (mentioned at AWDC)

It's not really d-links fault but Apple changed the way AFP worked in Lion and Mountain lion (to make it more secure so they say), ever since Apple upgraded their AFP protocol time machine has been broken for me. As far as I am aware D-link have never upgraded support for the new AFP method, but it will still work with the older mac OS.

I won't be buying d-link again to be honest, they are low priced for a reason, the support is poor and they are slow to fix anything, if they fix it at all. Apple moved the goalposts, fair enough but d-link seems to just choose to leave you stuck if that happens. To get better support you have to spend a bit more I think, I learned my lesson thats for sure.

Really strange that D-Link's AFP server (which actually is a freeware product named Netatalk) works well on my DNS-325. Connecting to DNS-325 via AFP has never been a problem for me, since day 1 and firmware revison 1 of the 325. Really strange that the 320 behaves that much differently.
Those who have FFP and command-line access, might want to check the afpd.conf file on their NAS:
