Hello.
I have an old DIR-825 that I'm using as a basic WiFi AP and ethernet hub. I'm not using and of the router functionality of the device for establishing a connection to the internet, firewall, port-forwarding, etc.
- Nothing is plugged into the WAN port.
- LAN port 1 has a Cat6 ethernet cable running back to the main router.
- LAN port 2 has a Cat6 ethernet cable running to a desktop computer (acting as a File Server).
- WiFi is enabled (both bands) with a couple laptops connected.
The primary router has a couple desktop computers attached to it. WiFi is enabled on it for testing purposes (see below).
The problem is, I'm having an issue where the computers attached to the primary router can't talk to the server attached to the D-Link 825.
I did notice that wireless devices connected to the D-Link 825 via WiFi could connect to the server though, so that got me thinking it's a communications issue on the 825. To test, I enabled (temporarily) WiFi on the router. Connected the same wireless devices to it and they immediately lost touch with the server. Connected them back to the 825, there was the server again.
Testing from behind the 825 (i.e., from the server connected to the 825 to computers attached to the router) has no issue—communication isn't an issue in that direction. It's only communication going from pre-825 to behind the 825 that's the issue. It's almost like there's a LAN-based firewall on the 825 (which doesn't make any sense).
Anyway, I'm going to try and swap out the 825 with an older LinkSys I have kicking around somewhere to be sure the 825 is the problem, but while I do that, thought I'd post here and see if anyone had any suggestions?
Thanks,
Kristin.
