ISP not getting back to me. Probably hoping me and my problem will go away (which I won't).

I've been experiencing the same problem, i.e., can't access particular or all websites for all machines and devices connected to the network, persisting even with a reboot of both the modem and the router, and resolved with a factory reset of the router.

Currently using the latest firmware (2.05) for hardware version B1 and made sure that the router date and time is correct (due to the factory reset). Disabled QoS for now (WISH is disabled because wi-fi is turned off) and will see what happens. I'm not sure if I should leave it on and disable the automatic uplink, though.

Edit 1: disabled the automatic uplink only because some web access slows down without QoS. Also, I set everything in the firewall to endpoint independent and enabled multicast streams.

Edit 2: Problems persist, although a website could not be accessed momentarily. I think it's the automatic uplink option.

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
  • What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
  • What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
  • What region are you located?
  • Are you wired or wireless connected to the router?
  • Has a Factory Reset been performed?

Sorry to both you, FurryNutz, but I was able to solve the problem by disabling automatic uplink in QoS.

FWIW, the automatic uplink has a maximum of 2048 kbps and the ISP I subscribe to gives more than 3,000, so I just set the uplink manually to the max.

Finally, it's a problem that's probably dependent on region, ISP service, etc.

Seen some problems with these routers on some ISPs with UPLinks over 2Mb. Yes, disabling Traffic Shaping or QoS resolves this.

Enjoy.

Ok, it just happened again a few minutes ago, but I think it's the ISP. When I visit Google or Facebook, I only get a "sending request" message in the status bar of Chrome, but some other sites can still be accessed, and the torrents continue to run. I cmd and run "ping www.facebook.com" and see nothing wrong. Finally, I go to the router, select "DCHP release" followed by "DHCP renew," and the problem disappears.

Using DSL fiber optic, modem says GPON ONU, region is Asia.

Disabled DNS relay and unicasting. Will see what happens.

Edit: The problem took place again. I put back the DNS relay because I think it's needed but kept unicasting disabled as the help file says it's the default.

Right now, I have to release and renew the DHCP, although one time that didn't work so I had to reboot the router. At least I no longer have to factory reset it.

Finally, the workstations use static IP addresses which are reserved by the router to avoid IP address conflicts. I originally did this because I thought the QoS would have to be set manually. I might set all devices to auto-assign to see what happens.

Edit 2: Removed all static IP addresses and disabled QoS but I'm still experiencing the problem right now. FWIW, I noticed that I have no access to Facebook or Google using any machine connected to the system but all other websites are accessible. The ping results to both sites look normal.

As I write this, access to both sites have returned. I don't think this is a problem with the router, so I'll call the ISP.

Thanks for the help.

FurryNutz, have been waiting for ISP help person to return from vacation. In the meantime, attempted to create a network on another modem (Embarq 660) using the same laptop and Quick Start disk. Installation seemed to go OK until final network configuration step and it hung and did not complete - no internet connection established. I had that same experience with my Zhone modem using the Quick Start disk and was only able to create a network with manual setup. Even that took several attempts as the network connection was dropped several times during configuration.

The only thing I haven't done is update the FW. Will try that tonight.

Don't use the CD or disk to set the router up, either use the on-board wizard or manually go in to Setup/Internet/Manual/Connection Type as set it there. Easier if you do it this way. For most connections DHCP is only needed unless you get a static IP address information or you use PPPoE for DSL.

I used the startup disk in the past because I could complete the router configuration before the connection was dropped. Now nothing seems to work. I can login to the router and no matter if I choose the wizard or manual setup, no internet connection will be established and the router connection will drop soon after starting the configuration.

FurryNutz I appreciate your help, but I think this router was faulty from the start and it's time for me to move on and stop wasting your time.

Maybe so. Hope you can find something that works then.

Nothing seems to be wrong with the ISP, so I experimented using a spare router, and I think the problem has disappeared. I have another problem, though, but it has to do with connected hardware. I'll look for a section where I can post it.
