bigdave240, I initially got the same trouble with the USB backup feature. 

I almost lost the fearless beta tester will to go on...but just now, after much experimenting, usb backup is now running.

Unfortunately, the Firmware v1.04b05 changes appear to be made to the existing "USB Copy Function" that is explained on p. 109 of the version 1.0 DNS-325 owner's manual.

And this feature requires one to press the "USB copy / unmount" button on the back of the DNS-325 for 1 to 3 seconds, in order to activate the USB backup feature. 

If one presses the "USB copy / unmount" button for more than 5 seconds, the USB device is unmounted.

How disappointing.  Would it not be more helpful to allow a scheduled USB backup that did not require pushing a button for 1 to 3 seconds?

Well, here is how it goes to get it working...

One must have the USB drive connected in order to set up the Applications / Local Backups / USB Backups feature.  Otherwise, one only sees the helpful "None USB Storage." message.

I used a 698 GB NTFS disk in an ORICO USB drive enclosure.  The same disk with exFat formatting did not work.

In Applications / Local Backups / USB Backups, I entered the following settings:

USB Backups -->  "Enable" (Radio Button)
Category --> "NAS to USB" (Radio Button)
Source --> "Volume_1" (one can use the browse button to select the NAS volume)
Destination --> "USBDisk1_1/USBBackup" (I made a "USBBackup" folder on the USB disk to hold the backups and used the browse button to select this destination folder)
Type --> "Copy" (Drop Down)

Status --> Status will show "---" before the process starts.  It will show "Backup fail (Error Code:2)." if the destination folder does not exist.  It will show "" or nothing, while the copy process is running (contrary to the description found next to "Copying Status" in the right-hand help pane).

Be sure to press the "Save Settings" button.

Now, press and hold the "USB copy / unmount" button on the back of the DNS-325 for 1 to 3 seconds.

When the USB copy feature is activated, it will create a YYYY-MM-DD-HH-MM-SS folder in the destination folder. 

The backup files and folders will be placed inside the YYYY-MM-DD-HH-SS folder.

seems to be working. Noticed that the help shows that there should be a Copy Status showing how much and at what speed it is transfering. that is missing. would be helpful to see that instead of having to open an explorer and trying to see it that way.

go to Management and Application Management and you should find the settings for the FTP server. the help panel on the right should give you all the info you need to get it up and running. post back if you need more than that though.

You're talking about FTP and what I want is Telnet.

sorry lol. that was weird. telnet is a little trickier. here is a link. not sure we are allowed to talk about that here so it might be taken down. nas-tweaks.net/371/hdd-installation-of-the-fun_plug-0-7-on-nas-devices/ not sure there is another way but it worked for me. you end up turning off telnet after you install it and using ssh but you have that choice

hahaha. Do not worry. These things happen. Yes, I know fun_plug, in fact, has been running fun_plug much time in my NAS. But I wanted to avoid having to install this software.

There really is not much change in performance over the previous version.

The changes are almost imperceptible. The change EXT3 to EXT4 does not provide much of anything.

Are there other DNS-325 users who are able to successfully use this functionality? Can anyone replicate/validate this issue?   

i was playing around with my photos today and notice that now the feature works? i had rebooted a couple of times when i first tried it but after rebooting it today it now works. didn't make any changes i was aware of so not sure why but it does.

I'm noticing that this firmware does not work as well as with the previous version.

The web interface has become much slower and I have trouble recognizing one of the hard drives.

The change has been for the worse. I agree with the new features, but the problems have worsened and performance too.

Still Nothing on DNLA support i have had to get a DNS320 i still have the 325 but its not a spot on the 320 when will they sort this out
Oh and the previous firmware worked in windows 8 and IE10
Plus This is only for the USA Market when will it be available to the rest of the world

Firmware version v1.04b05 is labeled as "ww" or worldwide release and is not specific to any one country. The download site posted on this forum is D-Link Taiwan, not the US site. The following is also posted on the "Comments and Observations" thread:

Although this firmware was publicly published by D-Link for global distribution, D-Link USA still has yet to green light the firmware for publication on the US FTP and website. D-Link USA has it's own secondary QA process that all releases must pass before they publish locally in the US.

Same issue for me regarding the fan :
