Device not connect to internet properly

Hi,

just bought this new device today. Already flashed to firmware 1.02 dated March 29, 2013. H/W revision A3. I had connected the device to my modem router and browse it using mydlink website and iphone mobile, both connected fine. But when try to reconnect after idle for 30 minutes (just average), the device cannot connect anymore, stated offline. What is wrong? I am newbie to NAS, kindly help me. Thanks.

Can you successfully open the web UI login page by entering the DNS-320L IP address in a browser on a PC connected to the same LAN? Does the router show up on the modem web UI networked devices table?

Yes, I can always login web GUI using my local LAN IP address. If I reboot NAS, it will work again but only last for short period then it will show offline again, but I am still can login through web GUI.

I'm wondering if the HDDs are hibernating, causing the DNS-320L volume to show as offline.

Something to try:

  • Wait for the mydlink service to indicate that the DNS-320L is offline
  • Open and Navigate Volume_1 using a PC on your LAN (i.e. perform an activity that causes the HDDs to spin-up)
  • Recheck to see if the DNS-320L status changes on mydlink

If the unit shows active on mydlink, we may have the root cause.

My NAS had already running for 12 hours now. I had set it to hibernate after inactivity for 5 minutes. So the power LED is off right now. I have tried on both mobile app and web both shows offline. So now I copy a new 3G file to volume_1, the power LED now turned blue and HDD LED flashing, but sadly mobile app and web still showed offline.

I'm grasping now, but do you have UPnP enabled on your router? This setting is necessary for maintaining persistent connections with the D-Link network camera series on mydlink.

I am using TP-Link TD-W8960N rev1 modem. UPnP protocol enabled. Do you means that I need this protocol in order to make internet connection persistant with NAS? Maybe the modem not fit the requirement, it has been 3-4 years old from now.

Updated: I had changed to different modem, the result still the same. Is it h/w faulty or can be fix via firmware update?

Hi, is that any Dlink representer here can guide me?

The issue is because either:
1. Wrongly setup (pls guide me)
2. Incompatible router/modem (what router do I need?)
3. Hardware faulty (I can get a replacement from store)
4. Software bug and can be fixed via new firmware (I need to wait)
5. Wrong model, I had purchased DNS-320 instead of DNS-320L?
6. Other possibilities reasons (I need contact details for Dlink Malaysia)

I am using Windows 8 64-bit. Initially ran setup using Windows 7 because setup wizard cannot detect NAS.

  • Are you wired or wireless connected to the router?
  • Has a Factory Reset been performed on the main host router?



Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
  • What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have?
  • Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask. Link>Checking MTU Values
  • For DSL/PPPoE connections on the router, ensure that "Always ON" option is enabled.

Router and Wired Configurations
Some things to try: - Log into the main routers web page at 192.168.0.1. Use IE, Opera or FF to manage the router.
  • Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. This ensures each devices gets its own IP address when turned on and connected, eliminates IP address conflicts and helps in troubleshooting.
  • Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
  • Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming.

My answers:

  • I am using wired connected to the router.
  • I am not perform Factort Reset on my router, I am using custom configuration to suite my ISP provider. The official guide by modem provider (http://www.tp-link.com.au/article/?id=346)

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
  • I am using fiber optic with 5mb up & 5mb down speed
  • I am following above mentioned guideline by TP-Link to setup MTU requirement. It is 1492.
  • Not sure where is "Always ON" option, I captured screenshot for you.


Router and Wired Configurations
  • All devices have their own fixed IP by MAC address as below:
  • Not so sure about your question, you means internal IP address or external IP address?
  • I only got one option for UPnP and no Multi-cast Streaming option

It looks like the NAS IP address is outside the DHCP IP address range.

  • NAS:  192.168.1.102
  • DHCP IP Address Range: 192.168.1.150 to 192.168.1.250

(PC and iPhone may suffer from the same IP range issue)

You should issue an IP address ending in the 150-250 range (e.g. 192.168.1.175)

I would set up the NAC inside the DHCP IP address range. Reserve the IP address the NAS gets from the main host router.

I recommend that you refer to your Main Routers Mfr for support and technical help...

IP addresses outside of the defined DHCP range are likely to have access issues.

Do you see the 1 MB lmitation for LAN to LAN transfers or Internet to LAN transfers? What sort of activities are limited? (i.e. streaming video? file transfers? etc.)
