Problem :File copy fast but streaming media slow
« on: May 17, 2009, 02:23:11 PM »

hi all

I've set the router up with my tower pc and a laptop  which is connected to my tv.

When i map a drive to the tower and copy files its fast. Connected at 300mbps real world performace is between 10Mb/s-15Mb/s i can see the speed on netstat live utility. So thats good well fast enough to stream media.

The problem is when i stream HD movies to the laptop. The speed is only going at 2Mb/s max compared to the 10+ i get when copying files. Its not fast anough and end up in a complete judder/slowdown situation. The tower has dual boot windows 7/vista and the laptop has windows 7. I also tried vista on the laptop and its still the same.

Tried using a wired connection between the router and the laptop but its the same. File copy goes as fast as the tower hard disk can push it . But when i stream any media it slows down to the point the movie is unwatchable.

This is my 2nd dir-655 the 1st one worked perfectly media streaming but died on me. I have rev A4 with 1.21EU firmware. Settings are at default except the changes to wireless for 300mbps connection.

Tried disabling wish/qos no luck. Its like the router is throttling the streaming media traffic for some reason? any ideas?

I have this same issue with both the DIR-655 and DIR-855 and I was going to post the same query...

And I thought I was the only one having this issue

Refer to this post

After an upgrade your wireless channel could have changed.

yeti101 wrote he tried a wired connection to the router as well, with the same result.
