sd card compatibility
« on: August 23, 2013, 06:23:57 AM »

Hi,
i tried to use a 32GB Kingston Class 4 sd card, but the cam does not see it (the sd card is ok, I tested it on a pc) while an old 2 GB Sandisk works fine.

are there some incompatible sd card models ? Should i format the sd card in some particular way ?

The feature list on the dlink website says that 5222L should work with every sd/sdhc card up to 32 GB...

 ideas or similar experiences ?

Thank you in advance

Did you format it in the camera?  ???

The sd card was already formatted, so I thought it was not necessary. It was correctly recognized in other devices (pc, mobile phone) and the other 2 GB card, the one that was correctly recognized, was also pre formatted.

However I'll do a test and I'll let you know the results.

Have you ever used 32 GB card in the 5222L ?

Thank you

I had difficulties myself, it gave a status "invalid" and after the firmware upgrade to 1.10 SD Status "Reinitializing". I found a solution in processing the following steps:

  • Format  the MicroSD in your computer on NTFS
  • Disable SD Recording (duh ;D)
  • Disable Motion Detection (Don't know if it makes any sense, but I happen to do this at the time together with step 1)
  • Insert the SD Card and format it from out the "SD Maintenance" menu.

I do not use additional software, just the webinterface.
Formatting the SD Card to FAT or FAT32 (with different sectorsizes) did not work, so I guess the key lies within the NTFS formatting on default settings.

Please let us know if it worked  :)

Hi,
finally i'm able to use a 32 GB  Sd card (class 4). This is what i did:

1. Firmware Upgrade (from 1.01 to 1.10, hw revision A2)
2. make sure sd recording is disabled
3. Insert the card while the camera is on
4. Format it from inside the camera

Considerations:
. I'm not sure if the point 1 is really necessary. I didn't try to format the card with the old firmware (I needed the https so I had to upgrade it anyway)

. The camera has formatted the card in FAT32, exactly the same format the card had before, so honestly i don't know why this step was necessary. I can't find any differences between the previous format and the one it has now.

Hope this could help someone else in the future ;-)
