My 655 is Hardware Version: B1 Firmware Version: 2.11NA

I upgraded it from 2.10 because of this problem, but it didn't change things.

The router just reboots over and over. However it seems related to traffic. I have 4 kids and myself that are all using it, sometimes at the same time. Also there are 2 IP cameras tied to it. I've been fighting this since I got it 3 months ago but have not found a solution on my own. I've tried shutting down the cameras and no luck (one wireless). Yesterday, it rebooted once and hardly before it was up again, it rebooted again! I turned the unit on its side and ran a fan on it cause it was pretty warm, but over the next few hours, it rebooted 3 times.

At that point I turned off the wireless completely. Now I don't have solid proof yet, but it hasn't rebooted once since then. I turned on wireless once for a few minutes, and only I was using the router, and it rebooted after 30 minutes of me being connected wirelessly. So I'm not positive its because of the wireless yet. I've put the wireless on a schedule so it's not up during our higher traffic times: afternoon and evenings. However it should not be this way. I'm almost ready to get another like one, and see if it's inherent in the whole model line or what.

I'm tied to a Motorola Cable Modem SB6141 with 10/50 Comcast service. I've seen the cable modem lose signal just a few times, but the router does not reset when that happens.

Not sure what to do at this point.

• Ensure the default (dlink) SSID name is changed. Can be anything and not something thats already in use by any neighboring WiFi routers. Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
• What wireless modes are you using?
• 2.4Ghz Routers only: Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N?
• Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
• Try setting a manual Channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear.
• What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto TPIK and AES.
• What wireless devices do you have connected?
• Any cordless house phones?
• Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer to find out. How many?
• If you have any of these options, Try turning OFF or ON Short GI, WLAN Partition, HT 20/40 Co-exhistance and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Recommended settings are default. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.
• Enable WMM Enable Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

Router and Wired Configurations
Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1. Use IE, Opera or FF to manage the router.

• Turn off ALL QoS or Disable Traffic Shaping (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options, Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
• Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual or under Setup/PARENTAL CONTROL/Set to>None: Static IP or Obtain Automatically From ISP.
• Enable Use Unicasting (compatibility for some ISP DHCP Servers) under Setup/Internet/Manual.
• Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking. Link>Finding Faster DNS Addresses using Name Bench
• Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking. This ensures each devices gets its own IP address when turned on and connected, eliminates IP address conflicts and helps in troubleshooting.
• Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
• If IPv6 is an option on the router, select Local Connection Only or Disable IPv6 options under Setup/IPv6.
• Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall. Enable or Disable SPI to test.
• Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking.
• Turn off WISH, and WPS under Advanced.
• WAN Port Speed set to Auto or specific speed? Some newer ISP modems support 1000Mb so manually setting to Gb speeds can be supported by the router. Advanced/Advanced Networking/WAN Port Speed
• Set current Time Zone, Date and Time. Use an NTP Server feature. Tools/Time.
• Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Link> Cat6 is recommended.

I recommend that you have your ISP check the cabling going to the ISP modem, check signal levels going to the ISP modem. Check for t.v. line splitters and remove them as they can introduce noise on the line and lower the signal going to the ISP modem. Connecting to the ISP modem could result in a false positive as the signal to the modem could be just enough to that point then adding on a router, could see problems. The router operation is dependent upon getting good data flow from the ISP modem and the modem is dependent upon getting good signal from the ISP Service.

I can certainly have them check but note that this is a single brand new line, ran just 3 months ago. There are no splitters and I don't have cable phone or TV; just internet. The line goes from the box in my yard, to some kind of splitting device on the outside wall, then a single cable from there to my Motorola modem. Total run is like 40 feet max. Is there something I can check for that info in my cable modem because I have access to that as I own it, and I've looked around thru it before.

And I kind of question whether its Comcast's problem when I looked at the up time of the router, and it reset yesterday at 1:00 p.m., and it wasn't in use BUT the wireless was on then by schedule. I just started using scheduling so I can see if it reboots only when wireless is on, which so far is the case.

And When the router reboots, I never see any problem on the router display. It still shows all lights as normal. This is not to say it hasn't, as I think twice in the last 3 months I have lost internet at the cable modem, when the "world" light goes out for a short time, but the router was not affected.

Advanced DNS Service is on; Changed to off but I can't reboot yet as my daughter is doing online college.

Unicast = ON

I do not see DNS Relay under Setup/Network Settings. I don't have Setup/Networking so I assume that's the same.

I will setup additional reserved DHCP addresses later. I have a few like my printers and my desktop

Changed my IPv6 from Auto Detection to Local Connectivity Only

My UDP Endpoint filtering is set to Address Restricted
My TCP Endpoint filtering is Port and Address Restricted
I can change those when I get home. I'm on my router remotely right now.

uPnP is enabled
Multi-cast Streaming I just turned on/ awaiting reboot though

WISH was already off
Turned off WPS/awaiting reboot

WAN port speed is set to 10/100/1000 Mbps Auto

Changed Time to use NTP Server/awaiting reboot

Cable between router and modem is self made Cat6, checked with a cable checker that checks wire to wire, but I'll swap with a prebuilt when I get home. About an hour from now. and reboot router.

Hopefully you can see I'm serious about fixing this. I imagine a lot would give up but I am willing to work through all of this.

So I need to do a factory reset and I assume it keeps the firmware, and then I'll have to go thru and set it up again?

I did download InSSIDer yesterday on my desktop but when I ran it, it said it was missing something. Can't remember, but something about a wireless connection. I have a wireless antenna on it but it's disabled since I was trying to stop all wireless traffic, and I didn't get a chance last night to turn it on wireless and see if InSSIDer will run.

Yes, factory reset and set up from scratch...

InSSIDer needs an enabled WiFi adapter to be able to scan for surrounding WiFi signals. Doesn't have to be connected to any router, just enabled and ON.

Set Manual 1000Mb on the WAN Port Speed since the SB modem supports this connection speed.

OK. Everything done. I have it set to Mixed G and N. Not sure if a Nintendo DS can use G. I'll have to find out later. I know it can't use N.

DNS Relay is on.

Now I have to switch to another computer to use InSSIDer.

Ya, might need to set Mixed ALL modes for Nintendo. Amazes me how they did so little in the DS series. 

Is the DS used alot?

There are DS's and 3DS's used all the time, but I made sure they were not on for awhile, and still the router rebooted. It seems a DS can do 802.11g, so I'll leave it on G and N.

I made all the changes suggested by INSSIder like switching to channel 11. Now there are no issues. I have wireless on right now and am using on this desktop.
