My suggestions:

Step 1
------
Ensure that you are registered for ddns. You may choose the service provided by
www.dyndns.org for instance.

Step 2 - Port forwarding in the router
---------------------------------------
Determine the IP of DNS320L. In the router, under port forwarding, enter the IP and port 21.

Step 3 - Port forwarding in ShareCenter
----------------------------------------
Open web management by typing http://<the IP of your device>. Log in under admin.
Click "Management".
Then click on "Network Management".
Click on "Port Forwarding" and choose "Add". Make sure port 21 is ticked.

Step 4 - Enable the FTP server in ShareCenter
---------------------------------------------
Click "Management".
Click "Application management".
Click "FTP server". Fill in the necessary details.
Then scroll down until you see "FTP server status". Click on in and scroll down until you see "Start FTP server". Click to enable it.

Step 5 - Test your ftp server with any of the ftp client. I use Filezilla.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you are in the same network, do "ftp://192.168.x.x"

If you are outside, do "ftp://your.domain.name.registered.with.dyndns.org"

Good luck.

I have the same problem that zerolock.
I've already set several times following various tutorials, I have updated the firmware but I can only access my internal network, outside of my network do not have access.

If you have a BT Home Hub 3, port forwarding won't really work.

Not BT Home Hub 3, have modem Motorola SBV5121 with router WRT160Nv3.
In my home network works perfect but out of my house I can not access.
By smartphone indoors too can not access. In the notebook is OK.

I've had this problem for ages, and today, I fixed it
I think this is the process
1. Set up port fowarding for port 80 (Use TCP not UDP )on the hub first. - select a name <DLink_320L_2014> for example
2. Get the Broadband network IP address, under the TCP/IP Settings on the Advanced Settings/Broadband page

3. sort out your DNS server at www.dlinkddns.com. Make sure it has the Broadband network IP address of as the "New IP Address"
4 Remember the hostname you created <Hostname>.dlinkddns.com
5. Run through the DLink network Management Make sure IPv6 settings are "Auto", in fact, make everything auto under the LAN settings
6. On Dynamic DNS, "enable" :

6a. The server is www.dlinkddns.com
6b. the host name is <Hostname> from 4.
Now, when you click on port forwarding, it should find a Upnp router

7. Back to the Home Hub, and complete the game / application setup port by adding a new game, using the port name from 1.

I think that's it

Good Luck!
