Haha the older router is actually a 5v, and I have it running through a surge protector which kinda puzzled me, but he said it can still happen.

Is there a Dlink model you would recommend because I was actually thinking about going with an Asus.  On most forums I frequent I see more people recommending them, and a lot of peeps having problems with the Dlinks.  I will say though just having you here on the forums is a big plus of customer support :).

What Rev is your 655? A?

Rev Bs are 12v 2A. I presume Rev A could be the 5v.

All the routers i've tested, really haven't had any issues with any of them. I'll save my opinion for about the DGL-5500.  ::)

I've enjoyed them all, even the 655. For a comparable 655 class router, I've enjoyed the 645 greatly. Good little router. The DIR-857, 827 and 826L are routers too for gaming and media. Only fault there I see is that a printer is not supported on the USB port on the 826L. Not sure why. I don't use the USB ports for printing anyways and prefer a LAN cable supported printer.

Both the DIR-865L and 868L routers are phenomenal routers. My 865L is back on line currently. I'm glad D-Link added full bridge mode. I had a friend of mine get 2 868Ls for his gaming system so we could connect AC mode for gaming. Awesome now. Had my roommate running the 868L in bridge mode while testing different routers out. Works great in bridge mode.

I posted a review for the 865L and 868L in there forums for your review pleasure.

Been testing new things. Change maybe in the wind here though.

Let us know how it goes...

Sorry for the confusion I meant the old router (605) I wanted to use for testing as I couldn't find it's power supply.

For some good news I got one and got the 605 setup and after 10mins I'm not having those problems so far.  I jumped on my minecraft server and had max connection, and also did a speed test and scored right at the top of my plan.  So hopefully that is all it was and I can move forward.  I for sure would like to get one on the higher end as it will probably give me more time before another upgrade.

I never did test the 655 again since last night, but the 605 after install is working like a charm.  Will I see any improvements getting a newer model then this 605?

Is this a DIR-605L?

Most of the low end 6 series routers only have 100Mb ports. Starting with the 628 and up do they have Gb ports. I presume you'd want Gb ports?

Not sure the the letter or not but it's a 605, and no it doesn't have gigabit LAN ports.

Gonna decide between these routers and of course read your review on the 865...

Dlink 865L $140
        835   $90
Asus N66U $150
        AC66U $210
        AC68U $230

*To correct what i've been saying just got home and noticed it's a 604 not 605*

Yup DI-604...the box advertises it as "Xbox compatible" so it's gotta be old.

Just waiting on prices for a router and some speakers.  Since I've been home from work I haven't had a single problem at all.  I considered just going with it for awile but who knows how long it will last.

Another twist to the story....after the 604 had worked like a champ all evening I decided to try the 655 again and it worked with only one error msg.  I tried maxing the system a bit by having YouTube vids and Twitch.tv streaming at the same time.  Then also turned on Minecraft which led to no problems.

Now I wonder if I should even buy a router, but I know if I decide not to it'll prolly end up dying as soon as the decision is made.  I'll see how it performs tonight before I make my choice.

Ya I don't think it is...we do always have lag issues but I'm not seeing the same problems on my local Facebook pages.  Maybe the install?  When I first added the PC I just plug and played.  Even when opening the router page it never asked me to.  When I plugged the 604 in and opened it up it asked me to let the wizard install it, but even when I switched back to the 655 it just showed up like it was already there.

Even if I go error free again tonight I still may buy a router as this is at least 5-6 years old now.
