mydlink.com and firefox 26 Java problem
« on: December 12, 2013, 04:33:20 PM »

Hi;
I am using Linux Mint (13), with firefox and Oracle Java.  All was well with firefox 25, and was able to view my 932L camera over the web.  I then updated to firefox 26, and even though I allowed the use of java in the "addons - plugins", the browser complains that Java is not installed.  I have uninstalled  Noscript, Adblock Edge, and Ghostery, with no avail.  I have also reinstalled firefox, and its associated files, with no joy.  I see no prompt with regards to the aclaimed "click to play" advertised by firefox/mozilla.

I wonder if anyone else can shed any light on this?
Regards,
Bob

Further to this...I downgraded firefox to version 25.0.1, and removed Oracle Java 7; and then installed the opensourced Icedtea (openjdk/jre) and all works again.  I won't be updating firefox for the near future, until I see some indications that the bugs are fixed.

You are on the cutting edge!

Try Chrome for your viewing?  Ie?

Nah...I left the use of IE behind a long time ago.  It was just too annoying, and seemed to be rife with security problems.  I keep a Windows install around just for the use of a Delorme gps program, and for a Verizon Access Manager, both of which work only with windows.  Otherwise, it is Linux.  As for google chrome; well that company has become increasingly intrusive in their data collection.  I try to stay away from them as much as is possible.

On the other hand...I am only an amateur at this stuff, and still have a lot to learn.

On my Mac (10.6.8) with Firefox Aurora 27.0a2, mydlink.com was balky about needing jre - until I opened Safari and went through all the motions of enabling java - and then Aurora worked!
Definitely needs work.
Or better to avoid mydlink.com, which is my usual mode.
