Title describes the problem.

Every 2-3 days, all wired ports on my DIR-855L lose Internet access. When this happens, the wired clients still have local network access.

Funny enough, wireless clients still have Internet after the wired clients lose it.

The problem temporarily goes away when I power cycle the device, but again, it has to happen every two days.

I don't want to get a smart power switch because I can buy a new switch that doesn't have this problem for cheaper.

• What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
• Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
• What region are you located?

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations

• What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
• What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
• What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have?
• Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask. Link>Checking MTU Values
• For DSL/PPPoE connections on the router, ensure that "Always ON" option is enabled.

Router and Wired Configurations
Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1. Use IE, Opera or FF to manage the router.

• Turn off ALL QoS or Disable Traffic Shaping (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options, Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
• Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual or under Setup/PARENTAL CONTROL/Set to>None: Static IP or Obtain Automatically From ISP.
• Enable Use Unicasting (compatibility for some ISP DHCP Servers) under Setup/Internet/Manual.
• Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking. Link>Finding Faster DNS Addresses using Name Bench
• Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking. This ensures each devices gets its own IP address when turned on and connected, eliminates IP address conflicts and helps in troubleshooting.
• Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
• If IPv6 is an option on the router, select Local Connection Only or Disable IPv6 options under Setup/IPv6.
• Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall. Enable or Disable SPI to test.
• Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking. Disable uPnP for testing Port Forwarding rules. Enable IPv6 Multi-cast Streaming for routers that have a Media Server option. Disable IPv6 Multi-cast Streaming if IPv6 or Media Server is not being used.
• Turn off WISH, and WPS under Advanced.
• WAN Port Speed set to Auto or specific speed? Some newer ISP modems support 1000Mb so manually setting to Gb speeds can be supported by the router. Advanced/Advanced Networking/WAN Port Speed
• Set current Time Zone, Date and Time. Use an NTP Server feature. Tools/Time.

So wifi clients still have access to router and internet however LAN wired doesnt...I would turn OFF ALL LAN wired clients and test with just one client at a time or gradate them...

You don't have any filters set or anything to prohibit LAN computers from connecting do you?

Swap LAN cables to be sure between router and clients.
Ensure LAN NIC drivers are up to date on each client.
3rd Party Security Software Configurations

• Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.
• Turn off all devices accept for one wired LAN PC while testing.
• Disable any downloading client software managers, i.e. Torrents or similar.

I tried everything you asked an it has not fixed the issue.  working on RMA now with vendor.  i'm switching to another brand.

I would really like to keep it as I like the features and speed when it works.  Any other tips.

it takes about 5 days for the wired ports to fail.  I have my xbox 360, a desktop pc, NAS, and ooma attached.  when this fails incoming audio on my phone stops working about 15 sec into phone calls, outgoing continues to work.  desktop is unable to surf the internet but i can browse the NAS files.

It would be helpful to us if you could run thru and give answer to my post to the OP. Any and all information there would help us get a better idea of your situation and helps us give better feedback and suggestions. Please copy and paste.

One thing I would do is to use this and reload firmware code using this process:
FW Update Process

Are you using CAT 6 LAN cables? Have you swapped out to test?

You can take the router to a different location, i.e. friend, or familys place and see if problem follows.

Any external network switching being used? Disconnect them while testing.

Later on, Maybe someone can review your router settings with you using Link> teamviewer if your interested. Its safe and secure.

ok I'll try and start this tonight.

I will reflash the firmware leave everything default and see if it breaks.  This is extremely frustrating.

Understand. We are here to help figure it out with you. It could be just a faulty unit. We haven't seen much of any of problems like this so it just could be one bad unit. However, lets try what I suggested in meantime, post and give some feed back on the questions presented when you can. We'll figure it out one way or another.

I am having a similar issue.  I have been using this router for about 6 months.  In the last couple of weeks, it has started to drop the Internet.  At first random, now multiple times every day.  The green Internet light stays on, the lights on my cable router do not change.

I contacted my ISP - who checked their router and did not see any loss of signal at their end.  They could view their data and see that I had reset their router several times along with the D-Link 855L.  They suggested to reset the 855L only to isolate the issue.  I did this and it would re-connect with every power off reset.... but only for a half hour or so.

Download speed 12.5 M/Bs, Upload 1890 K/bs (today using 655)

I read this thread to ensure my settings followed your suggestions - still dropping. 

I kept my older D-Link 655, and replaced the 855L - it has only been 12 hours, but so far the internet has not dropped.

I suspect the 855L has become faulty but I do not understand why.

What Rev model is the 655 and what FW version is currently loaded on it?

I am located in Ontario Canada,  Cable service, Rogers ISP.

All computers use static addressing in modem, Windows settings on each computer is IP automatic assigned.
Speeds as noted earlier 12.5M down 1800kb up.
Modem is Dlink 855L, A1, original firmware 1.00
Using Cat 6 cable - same cable used for the past 6 months - problem started about 2 weeks ago.  Progressively gotten worse.  Original firmware was 1.0, now 1.02 - no factory reset done before or after firmware update.

MTU set at 1500.

D-link reconnects to internet after each power-off, then disconnects again, about 1/2 hr later.
