Yes.  Where it would let me.   Not all combinations of settings allow TPIK (I think it was N only, but I'm not home to look at my notes).

What iOS is the iPads using?

All are iOS 7.   My iPad is specifically is 7.0.4.

Just got home and looked.  My notes say I tried that and TKIP and always had an dialog box pop up that TKIP is not supported.   So I went through them again.   TKIP does save when doing mixed a/n (that's the only one and I have n and ac devices, so didn't even try that combo) and got it to save and they do connect and work on 5Ghz with that.

That kind of sucks.   I have to turn ac off (my MBP is using that) in order to get the iPads (and also my two ATVs - forgot that they have the same problem) up into the 5Ghz band or just keep them in the 2.4Ghz band.

Hopefully D-Link can get this sorted.

I have the new iPad air and original ipad connected to my 5 GHz wifi and both have worked flawlessly. The IPad Air is running iOS 7.0.4 and my 5500 is running the latest firmware 1.11B03. My 5ghz settings are as follows:
mode: mixed ac/n/a
Channel width: auto 20/40/80
Channel: 149
WPA mode: auto (wpa or wpa2)
ciper type: TKIP and AES

I seems weird that the mini wouldn't work and the air would. I have had two new ipad airs connected in the last week or so with no problems connecting. I haven't played with the wifi settings as i have not had any problems. Just want to share my experience so far.

DLink confirmed that at least one of there ipad2 is working for them using WPA2 and AES only. This could be a mini issue. New Fw is on the horizon.

It's more than a mini issue as I have two original iPad 2's and an iPad 4 in addition to a mini that don't work with AES on the 5500 (but are fine on two Linksys', a Cisco, and an Airport Extreme).

EDIT...  Actually my sons iPad mini works fine on 5Ghz with WPA2 and AES.   So just two iPad 2's, an iPad 4, and two Apple TV's (keep forgetting about those).

Yep.   Installed and reset my iPad network settings.   Still not working on the 5Ghz band.   I'll continue running to see if the rebooting when playing PS4 CoD:Ghosts over WiFi (LAN is fine) and some random disconnects I've had since installing 1.11 go away.

Recently i buy airport extreme
It no problem 5ghz

I suspect channel
Airpot 5ghz channel 149
Dgl-5500 channel 40

Right now dgl-5500 is my parent home
So cant test
Anyway i will test

Can play CoD:Ghosts on Wifi without crashing the router and so far there have been no disconnects (which happen on 1.11) after a day of use.    Will keep looking out for the disconnects, but so far my girlfriend's iPad and MBP have not disconnected and neither has the thermostat which was being disconnected at least once a day (the router now says the thermostat type is 'Playstation 4' when it used to say 'Nest', though).

I noticed one thing with testing the settings with my iPad 2.   If I connect the iPad 2 to the 5Ghz band and then open Safari and go to any page (cache was cleared) and the progress bar moves and eventually stops after maybe 10% and sits there until it eventually times out.   

One time I left it like that and then made a change to the router which then went through the countdown.   When the countdown got around half way done (about the time that I'm assuming the Wifi reinitializes with the new settings as that's when everything loses their wifi connection) the loading in the browser stopped and displayed the title, various boxes that match where pictures should be (or at least the divs the pictures are supposed to be in), and some miscellaneous text.   So it does try to load the page and then just dies.   Thought that was interesting.

Maybe someone can review your router settings with you using Link> teamviewer if your interested. Its safe and secure.
