help on configuring AP with 615
« on: December 24, 2013, 12:01:37 PM »

so I have been reading and wondering if I can use my dlink 615 as a bridge or AP so I can connect my TV to the internet with out having to buy the samsung wireless adapter or pay of other ac adatapoers etc.

I have Eastlink as my service provider and they provide me with a Motorola SBG6580 that has wireless enabled

now can I use my Dlink in the other room pluged into my wall to bridge into the sp modem wirelessly so i can then use a ethernet cord to plug into my dink to the TV ?

do I need a second dir 615 to do this ? or do i still have to have cords connected to everything if thats the case I am best buying the samsung wirless adpater or a ac power adapter is this correct ?

so basically this

Modem-PC <<<wirless wave >>>> Dlink-TV

or do i need this ?

Modem-Dlink 1-PC <<<wirless wave >>>> Dlink 2-TV

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

I am not using my Dlink but the modle number is DIR615

H/W Ver C1

F/W Ver 3.01

I believe both the 615's I have are the same ( if i need 2 )

my motorola is

Information
Standard Specification Compliant   DOCSIS 3.0
Hardware Version   1
Software Version   SBG6580-6.5.0.0-GA-00-226-NOSH
Cable Modem MAC Address   00:23:ed:f9:7f:e1
Cable Modem Serial Number   324369023507930455530001

I am also located in Nova Soctia, Dartmouth and my service provider is eastlink

The 615s do not support any wireless bridging. They can be used as wired APs though:

ahhh poop, I need wireless bridging, the AP is senseless to me when i can just run a cord to the TV instead.  can i flash the dlink firmware and use dd-wrt firmware and use the wireless bridging then ? as that seems to usually be what stops the abil;ability to do so is the firmware.

You'll need to refer to the WRT site to see if thats possible.

If not, you'll need a different model, Like a D-Link DAP model that support bridging.

Hallo alakaia,
most Dlink routers don't support wifi bridging with Dlink firmware. I have 2 DIR-615, one Rev. B2 and one Rev. H. Rev. H is supported by DD-WRT firmware, your C1 as well.
So you have to use a different firmware to use your DIR-615 in bridging mode.
I use my Rev B2 with standard Dlink firmware and the Rev. H with DD-WRT and everything works fine.
See
http://www.dd-wrt.com
http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/DIR-615C.
Good luck

Hi all,
First post here.  I just picked up a Hitron router from my ISP today, hence made my DIR 615 E3 redundant.  I'm hoping to make it a wireless AP.  If I understand the thread correctly, I can't do it as is, but will need to download the firmware from ww.dd-wrt.com.  Is my understanding correct?

Please advise.
Thanks!

Youll need to refer to WRT to make sure that can be done for your Rev 615.
