Hello everybody , I have  my DNS-320 for a few days and have install fun-plug on it. ( No other package yet)

I had some problems with the multimedia service and upgrade to the DLINK_DNS320L(LW).1.03b04(3.07.0904.2013) version.

Unfortunately after  I was unable to ssh with root to my DNS-320L.
Does the package change to root password or reset to a default one ?
I store the password with the putty utility ( So this was working fine before).
I can still putty with other users but of course I do not have root privilege.
Do you have a way to reset the root password ?
Does some one has some idea ?

Second issue :

I log with admin using putty and the OS ask me to change the password. I change it and  I was able to use the GUI  with the new password.  After a restart of the NAS, the  new password is not accepted anymore and the new old is also rejected !!!
What can I do ?

You need to follow the steps in the "Change root password" section of this tutorial: http://nas-tweaks.net/371/hdd-installation-of-the-fun_plug-0-7-on-nas-devices/#Change_root_password
You need to use telnet to connect to the NAS, and change the root password.

When upgrading the firmware all information store in the flash ram are wiped, and replaced with the new firmware, therefor you need to set the root password again, which were stored in the flash ram before your upgrade.

I'm not sure about you second issue. Try my suggestion, and come back if this doesn't resolve your issues.

Failed to telnet to the NAS ( after the fun-plug instalation, I have turn off the telnetd and keep only sshd daemon.
But I found a solution, the fun_plug  file was still accessible from another user.  with the id command redirect in a temp file ( id >/tmp/mylog ) I notice that fun_plug is execute by root  ( id  = 0 )
I have create a file with 2 times the new root password  and add the following line in the fun_plug file

passwd root </mnt/HD/HD_a2/users/chgpwd>>/tmp/tmp.log 2>&1

where /mnt/HD/HD_a2/users/chgpwd contains the root password 2 times.

and ... the root password was  set.

after it was easy to change the other password

thanks

Thats great!

If you ever get "locked out" again, you can use the "My files" application in the NAS webinterface, to make the telnet startup-script executable on restart, by changing the file properties (see picture below)

Actually my whole fun_plug installation is on a USB-stick. It's really nice, because it allows the disks to spin down, when they are not in use.

I just saw that there have been a previous thread with a tutorial on how to run fun_plug from USB. It not exactly the same i used, but I'm sure i will work just as well. People seems to have a problem with ssh login after migrating to USB, so I have posted a solution in the thread. You can find the thread here: http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=52637.0
