Timeout of the management interface
« on: January 03, 2014, 01:21:40 PM »

Hi,

I have a DIR-655, Hardware Version B1, Firmware Version 2.11NA.

Is there some way to set the timeout of the management interface? It seems very short (just a couple of minutes). I often find myself having made a number of changes on a page (e.g. DHCP reservations), and when I click "Save", it fails back to the login page, losing all of my changes!

I've learned to hit the Save button more frequently, but it's a bit of a kludge, and I wish there were some place to set the GUI timeout to a more reasonable period, like 5 or 10 minutes.

Thanks!

Link>Welcome!

There is no setting for the time out for the UI. 3 Minutes is standard on all D-Link routers.

Web Browser Configurations
What browser are you using?
Try Opera or FF? If IE 8, 9, 10 or 11, set compatibility mode and test again.
Disable any security browser Add-ons like No Script and Ad-Block or configure them to allow All Pages when connected to the router.
Clear all browser caches.
Try turning off these features in Chrome:
Top right corner, little bars for options > Settings > Settings (on left) > Show advanced settings.
Uncheck these:
Use a web service to help resolve navigation errors
Use a prediction service to help complete searches and URLs typed in the address bar
Predict network actions to improve page load performance
Enable phishing and malware protection

Best thing to do is to save settings and reboot later...keep the clicks going if you can.

Huh. Wow, 3 minutes goes by very quickly, especially when you're multitasking, and all...  ;)

Anyway, FN, thanks for the quick reply! Guess I'll have to keep hitting that Save button... and the Reboot Later button (and get it right, or else! :o )

Cheers!

P.S.: Lovin' that support and ongoing FW updates continue for this unit!

Salutations,

I have a DIR-655-A with firmware 1.37NA, but I am sure it will work for the RevB too. It's a hidden feature of the DIR-655 to set the remote timeout. I have mine set to 60 mins.

You must use Firefox for this:

1). View the DIR-655 Admin Settings Page in Firefox

2) In Firefox, go to the View Menu and go: View>Page Style and select "No Style"

3) Scroll down and you should see an "Inactivity Time Out :" section. Set that for your desired minutes and click the "Save Settings" button near the top and Voila!

After that, you can turn the Page Styles back to "Basic Page Style". There are tonnes of hidden (unsupported) features through out the DIR-655 that are easy to get at, but hidden from plain view.

Good Luck!

This was removed in Rev B routers.

Too Bad. I'm glad I have a Rev. A router then! 3 minutes is ridiculously short...

There is a Reboot Later feature not on Rev B and all newer gen routers as well. Helps to avoid the 3 min time out.

You can do the No Style from IE too.  From the Page icon use the drop down arrow and you will see the style selection.
