i updated it using the recovery method outlined in another post on here, where you made a static ip on your computer, and then put 192.168.0.101 in the browser and it takes you to "emergency room" where it lets you upload another firmware and thats all it does

Ok, I think you've done all you can. I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. Ask for an RMA. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
