cannot access router web
« on: January 05, 2014, 02:38:08 AM »

Hello

After firmware update to 1.04 I cannot access dlink configuration web 192.168.0.1

The first 'globe' led icon is blinking, the second is dark.

I tried resetting the modem but it did not do anything, I did not even noticed that it was resetting at all.

What is strange is that the computer that is connected to the router via cable can access the internet. but there is no wifi of course

my ipconfig looks like this

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

   IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 92.52.40.183
   Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.248.0
   Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 92.52.40.1

I tried entering this default gateway into browser but no reponse.

I have an old d-link router that works OK.

Thanks for your help.

with old router, the ip config looks like this:

 IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.153
 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1

and it baffles me a bit.

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?
  • Are you wired or wireless connected to the router?
  • Has a Factory Reset been performed?

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
  • What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
  • What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
  • What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have?
  • If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems: Link>Double NAT and How NAT Works. To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged. If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ.
Example of a D-Link router configured for PPPoE with ISP Modem bridged: PPPoE Configuration on Router
  • Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask. Link>Checking MTU Values
  • For DSL/PPPoE connections on the router, ensure that "Always ON" option is enabled.

Lets review this:
FW Update Process

And lets reload v1.04 located here:
http://www.dlink.com/uk/en/support/product/dir-645-wireless-n-home-router-1000

For wireless devices:
Wireless Configurations
Links>Wireless Installation Considerations and Managing Signal Congestion and Good Neighbour Policy
  • Ensure the default (dlink) SSID name is changed. Can be anything and not something thats already in use by any neighboring WiFi routers. Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
  • What wireless modes are you using?
  • 2.4Ghz Routers only: Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N?
  • Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
  • Try setting a manual Channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear.
  • What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto TPIK and AES.
  • Any cordless house phones?
  • Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer to find out. How many?
  • If you have any of these options, Try turning OFF or ON Short GI, WLAN Partition, HT 20/40 Co-exhistance and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Recommended settings are default. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

3rd Party Security Software Configurations
  • Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.
  • Turn off all devices accept for one wired LAN PC while testing. Try a different PC or device to gain access?

Web Browser Configurations
What browser are you using?
Try Opera or FF? If IE 8, 9, 10 or 11, set compatibility mode and test again.
Disable any security browser Add-ons like No Script and Ad-Block or configure them to allow All Pages when connected to the router.
Clear all browser caches.
Be sure to log into the Admin account on the router.
Try turning off these features in Chrome:
Top right corner, little bars for options > Settings > Settings (on left) > Show advanced settings.
Uncheck these:
Use a web service to help resolve navigation errors
Use a prediction service to help complete searches and URLs typed in the address bar
Predict network actions to improve page load performance
Enable phishing and malware protection

Try a factory reset after you have made changes to my suggestions...?

i am having the same issue with this router, it was given to me, i hooked it up to my cable modem, which is one of those comcast router phone thingies, which i do not use, i've always had a seperate router hooked up to the cable modem thingie, with no issues, anyways, i first connected it, connected to the internet right away, and i tried to log into the router using 192.168.0.1, and it did go to the log on page, but would not let me log in using the default blank password, so i went ahead and hit the factory reset button, big mistake, it will take a long time to connect to the computer and when it does, i get the thing of unidentified network, and with a weird ip config, and it never gives me a default gateway, and every time i try to log into the router it just does not work, and i have tried this on another computer as well, same thing

Router Placement
Forum User - "Well I feel really dumb. After moving the router away from other electronic devices my speeds are back to normal. Just a heads up for anyone experiencing slow speeds, you might want to move it away from other electronics and see if that helps."
3-6' feet minimum safe distance between devices.
Placement on main level floor and central in the building and WELL ventilated is preferred. Not in basements or closets as building materials, or near by electronics devices could interfere or hinder good signal propagation.

Can you get any wired PC to see the routers web page after resetting the router?

You sure you swapped LAN cables and tried a different LAN port on the back? Can you see the WiFi SSID at all? Can you connect to the WiFi SSID Name?

Was the FW update applied using the auto check update feature or manually loaded?
