I got a d-link wireless DIR-655 router. I need to set up 2 pcs, 2 laptops upstairs and 2 xboxes and 1 ps3 downstairs. I am confused as what additional equipment i will need. I have couple linksys 4 port router that I set up as a switch a while ago. I also have a buffalo air station, a wireless ethernet converter. Any help?

Do you want us to have a look in our crystal ball or just guess HOW you want to connect to the router? We cannot see into your mind and house.... 

So first of all provide us a drawing of your network and intended layout. Doing this will almost automatically answer your question, by the way.

I have a gaming room downstairs. 2 xboxes and 1 ps3. Also a yamaha rx-v2700 receiver with an ethernet hookup. Upstairs in the office, there are two pcs. (all wired) Of course, there are couple laptops both of them have wireless cards already. I want to have my dir-655 downstairs close to my gaming consoles.(All wired for now with a possibility of adding couple more consoles with a wireless hookup). Kind of looks like this.

I was wondering if there is a cheaper solution then buying two dap-1555s.

All you would really need is a DAP-2553 http://www.dlink.ca/products/?sec=2&pid=697

Maybe any access point will suffice. I'm not sure about the lower end models, but the 2553 acts as a client, AP and DWS/AP

so for example, you could wire your gaming consoles to the DAP, set the dap as a client, which acts as a wireless network adapter for all your devices. The DAP then will wirelessly connect to the dir 655, which the dir 655 is wired to the other computers upstairs. Meanwhile any other computers upstairs can still have wireless access by connecting to the dir 655. So unlike the diagram you posted, which is completely unecessary, just a way for dlink to make more money than is needed, you only need 2 devices. You may only need what you have but you are going to need one long cord to connect the dir to your other router's.

BTW, if you do decide to buy it, DONT buy it from the dlink shop. They want nearly 500.00 for it. You can get it for about 140.00 US from tiger direct.com. tigerdirect.ca doesn't offer it.
 I think it's a worth while investment. It is certainly one that I am thinking about getting.

Thanks for the reply. DAP-2553 has only one port. In my case, I will have to purchase either several of them or get a switch. dap-1555 seems to have a similar price with more ports available. Also, I found a dwa-542 laying around. If i install this to one of the pcs, will it work with dir-655?

right. the media bridge will most likely work better for you. There was an oversight on the number of ports available.

The wireless adapter will work fine with it.

1555 doesn't have gig ports, check out the 1522.

Is it possible to add Buffalo WLI-TX4-G54HP to DIR-655? As soon as I disconnect buffalo device from dir-655, I lose my ip address. How can I hook up these together?

after fighting several hours with buffalo, i ended up going to the store and buying a 1522. I must say set up is not easy and i wish i didn't read the manual first. So confusing and sometimes frustrating. It would probably take me much less time if i didn't read the manual. Oh well, I ended up putting the dir 655 downstairs, hooked up a linksys router with disabled dhcp, connected my 2 xbox 360s, ps3, and yamaha rx-v 2700. Loving the internet radio on that receiver. Upstairs, two pcs are connected to 1522 and two laptops use their built in wireless setup.
One question, when i look at the status > device info on dir 655, i see one lan computer that I don't recognize. It's ip address is in my subnet. I just cannot figure out what it is. Is there a way to manually kick ppl out of your network via admin?
