Ideas on signal boost?
« on: February 02, 2014, 01:52:16 AM »

Any ideas on better signal besides changing to a single mode? Like new antennas? compatible powerlines etc.. Router is placed downstairs on the other side of the 2 story house. Can't move router upstairs or center of the whole house. So looking for ideas..

Maybe placement of a WiFi extender? D-Link has a couple that would work.

No chance of reconfiguring the router to be placed more centrally with new LAN cable runs?

Yes I am looking for suggestions of powerlines, extenders, etc.. From what I have gathered powerlines are suppose to be my best option but with no experience with extenders, repeaters, powerlines I am not sure what to do or route to go.

There is a desktop in that room that is connected to the router too. If I was to move the router to the center, I would need to run another cable back to the desktop or get a wireless card for the desktop, etc..

Thats possible too, put a WiFi card in or have put in a bridge for that PC, or use PL in that room too. You have some options to look at.

Ideas on which is better option? I am considering powerlines but dont know which would be best or compatiable. Also shorter cat6 ethernet cable for modem->router is best? Any suggestions?

Well, PLs could be a good solution, only thing is that if your power lines in your house are not good or something happens to them, makes it kind of hard to trouble shoot.

You could set up extenders if you still want to keep the router where it's at, however I would recommend getting it more centrally located on the main floor of the house. Then go from there and give a extender a try or put in a DAP bridge for the one PC in the basement, you wouldn't have to install a WiFi card in the PC, just connect the PC to the back of the bridge using the LAN cable.

I might phone contact D-Link sales and ask what they might recommend after you give them some info about your environment.

not sure why y last post did not stick but search for nano station. its a external antenna that will give you more signal than you will ever need
