Base on my issue on this topic:
http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=57733.0
I do understand that it is somehow un-answerable at some point, but hey I replaced it
after calling our Dlink local provider and giving me some crappy troubleshooting instead
of considering a direct RMA.

But anyhow, based on this topic
I was thinking to use a power hub to be plugged in to the USB port of my DNS-320L cloud storage,
whereas it will be connected with atleast 4 external hardrives (2 of these hardrives does have power supplies
in it). Will this kind of connection is possible other than the installed internal hardrives on the storage?

Unfortunately i don't have any external hard drives, so i can't answer your question fully, but i have tried connecting two USB flash drives and have made some observations.

I normally use a 4-port non-powered USB-hub. I have a USB flash drive and a printer connected, and it works great. I tried plugging in a second USB flash drive:

- The drive is auto-mounted by the NAS, and i can see both drives in System Management --> USB Devices
- Both USB drives are browseable in the My Files filemanager
- Both drives are automatically shared through NFS
- Only the first USB drive is shared through CIFS/Samba
- Second USB drive doesn't show up in Account Management --> Network Shares, and you can't add it as a new share

Using more then one USB drive is perfectly doable, and I don't think you will see any problems if you use a powered hub for your non-powered hard drives. But if you want to set special share permissions, or to use CIFS/Samba for all drives, it seems you have to use fun_plug to set up these share yourself.

That's a convincing explanation,

So it seems possible that a power hub can be used for this device however, entering the secondary USB
device has its limitation whereas only the primary USB has the full access for sharing. I would try to check
if my powered USB devices might work simultaneously.

Base on my understanding as well, one of the reasons why it does have a limitation on using more than 1
flashdrive or external hardrive is due to the fact that the AMPS are actually limited and it might only supportabout 1.5 to 3.0 ampheres. But this is still theoretical since I haven't yet made an experimentation for this.

I do appreciate the reply for this post  ;D
