Change 1 disk in JBOD without lost data
« on: March 16, 2014, 10:49:08 PM »

Hello!

I have problems with my D-link 320L, in fact, I currently have two drives (2TB and 350Gb) configured as JBOD.
I installed on it FunPlug andTwonkyServer.

I bought a new 2TB drive to replace the 350Gb and I want to have 2X2Tb JBOD (or 4TB).

How to not reinstall FFP and Twonky (which were quite hassle to install)?
When installing the new disk, NAS offers me to reformat the 2 HDD ... and go back to 0.

Thank for any reply and sorry for my bad english, i'm french.

Thank you to those who have the solution!

Backing up FFP and TwonkyServer should be fairly easy, just archive the /ffp folder via remote shell (telnet or SSH) and copy the archived file to another storage device (PC or external drive).

The hard part is the JBOD which I doubt there is a easy solution other then backing up the data and formatting it from scratch. Personally I would go for Standard volume and get the maximum storage instead of JBOD.

Hello,

Actually I tried to backup my ffp folder in ftp with filezilla and copy it on the new HDD.
I have a lot of error in the log and ffp is not working :/

I'm done to a new install of ffp?

No, you have to use a archiver like tar to archive/compress all the files in /ffp and use the archived file to "install" on the new drive. The syntax will be something like this:

tar czvf <source> <target>

Replace <source> with /ffp and <target> can be any location on either drive. For example:

tar czvf /ffp /mnt/HD/HD_b2/fun_plug.tgz

The archived file (fun_plug.tgz) is created and stored on root of Volume_2 (drive 2), backup this and FFP script (fun_plug). So when you're ready to "re-install" FFP, simply copy the usual fun_plug and fun_plug.tgz to the first drive and reboot NAS.
