wds help
« on: June 06, 2009, 11:03:29 PM »

In safari and firefox, if I turn off formatting I can see the wds function and go to enable it. When I click "save settings" and go back to it, wds isn't enabled. I really could use this since I'm needing it for my recording studio that i'm building.

btw I have fw 1.32 b1 hardware revision a4

Try using IE on a Windows machine.
If you enable the function, enter a valid MAC for a WDS AP, if all fields are empty or filled with 00:00... the function will be disabled.

Nevertheless as WDS is not in the official menu, it may fail. Why should they configure and check a function they don't use ? So may be there is only the basic menu provided by IPOS/Ubicom and the firmware hasn't been configured for correct use of WDS.

It's unclear if WDS still works even when it is present (but hidden).
WDS (in general) also has a tendency to be very picky when working together with other wireless routers/modems.

You may sell the DIR-655 and buy other 802.11n SOHO routers combined with WDS function at 25%-80% price of DIR-655.

Zyxel NGB640 WDS with more QoS bandwidth management.
SMC WGBR-14N WDS with printer server.(same Ubicom processor, Atheros wireless module, Vitnesse switching, but different firmware design)
TP-link TL-WR941N WDS but non Gigabit Ethernet(GE switching version is coming and won't cost much)
Edimax BR-6574n WDS
etc

Of course, i cannot guarantee these engineers would not remove the WDS as D-link did. At this moment, such function remains. Especially the SMC one, the wireless performance was even better.
